These past few days I've noticed that whenever I click on ANN it has taken a long time to load up. Now last night, and today all I get is a top banner but nothing but blue background. The address goes through the motions of setting up profiles then say "done" but nothing. I have to hit refresh several times untill the full page finally seen. It doesn't matter if it's the news, encyclopedia, video, forum, whatever. This is happening on both my home PC and at work as well so I can't fault the equipment I use.

I've noticed it too. How could I not? Some pages simply won't load unless I hit refresh; often multiple instances are needed. Other pages take one or two minutes to load, and that's assuming I'm only trying to load that single page at that particular time. And then there is generally just slow performance.
Please note that the problem isn't "always on", it happens spasmodically. Sometimes the forum is quick as quick, other times it makes a giant sloth look energetic.

Sounds like it may be an advertising issue. Particularly since only people outside of North America are reporting it (ads displayed in North America are different than those displayed outside).
Next time this happens to you guys, could you copy the "ads by: " line from the bottom of the page ?
Thanks.

I'm afraid that it can't be done, for the page simply wouldn't load to the bottom. However, I've noticed the browser (Firefox 3.0.10) often -- and I mean REALLY often -- gets stuck at "waiting for optimized-by.rubiconproject.com".

Or it could be your region blocking has become a bit too enthusiastic?
I'd love to except I can't see any?
I can't paste the print screen I captured here, so I'm sending it to you via e-mail.

Ah, I thought it was just me. If it happens again I'll see of the "ads by" line is visible in the source code somewhere.

Ads by:
Code: | <small>Ads by Gorilla Nation</small> |
I think this is the ad code itself:
Code: | <div>
<div><script>document.banner_ad_by="Gorilla Nation"</script><begin>
<script>
if (typeof(gnm_ord)=='undefined') gnm_ord=Math.random()*10000000000000000; if (typeof(gnm_tile) == 'undefined') gnm_tile=1;
document.write('<scr></scr>');
</script>
<end></div><s>
<script>$('banner-container').setAttribute('sponsor',document.banner_ad_by);</script>
</div> |

I haven't had to do any refreshing but ANN has been very, very slow for me over the past few days too.

Funny; the site often gets slowed down by the various ads (rubicon being a common problem). However, most of the time it merely says (paraphrasing here) "Waiting for ANN".
