Oh awesome! I wanted to check out Big Windup before buying, and now I totally can. This is sweet.

Oh wait, damn, it's dubbed only. Crap. Well, maybe I can at least get what the story is about.

Hopefully they'll release a subbed version, like they did with Baccano? I'll hold off on watching it and see if they add a subbed version.

I watched about 5-8 minutes of Oofuri.

Pros: They kept the original OP, they're not referring to each other by their first names (like how the Prince of Tennis dub is handled .>_<)
Cons: Everything else.

The dub is horrible. .x_x ...Especially Abe's voice.

I'll still buy the series because I love it but the dub track will never be touched.

I first heard Abe's voice and was very tempted to close it. It's slowly getting ok. I don't mind it as much as when I first heard it. I laugh at how they pronounced "Hanai"

I felt just this little bit of weird conceitedness from Mihashi's tone when he talked about how he won't be on the team cause he can't pitch. I know it's not supposed to but that's how it came off and that was a bit of a put off.

Was Heroic Age any good? I kind of gave up on the series after episode 2. I remember trying to explain it to a couple of friends and they pretty much predicted how episode 1 and 2 went except for the fact the boy WAS the giant robot/monster. Of course having gotta done with both Gundam Seeds and I think Eureka Seven I was kind of tapped out of the giant robot space drama thing at the time.

I didn't view it with big expectations. It wasn't HORRIBLE...

Are you kidding me? Hulu is only one year old? Holy crap, things move fast anymore (on the Internet, I mean).

Heroic Age sort of ends up being an anti-Sunrise mech show. With Gundam, et al, it's pretty much a heavy-handed reminder that war is bad and all of its suffering can be ended with a good-natured kid and his giant robot. Heroic Age somewhat ends up finding justification for all that transpires while maintaining sort of a Battlestar Galactica/Nadesico/Scrapped Princess type of narrative.

Something else that's neat, but really unimportant is that the show portrays space travel in more realistic terms than most shows. Messages take hours, even days, to travel from one fleet to the next. Nothing is really that instantaneous. However, it's all fluff for people like me. The important thing is if a show causes me to willingly think about the message it gave me, it's probably a good show.

I shall admit I'd much rather Funi were to stream these shows on their own website, due to the current (and alas constant) limitations of Hulu.

Heroic Age is not a mech/robot show. There are some mechs and robots in the show, but they are never the focus. Heck, the main character really isn't a mech either. It is much more organic. It never really tries to be a mech show either. It is a space opera and that's all it is. The pacing can throw some people off, since it kind of steam rolls from the beginning to end. One thing just kind of leads to another and there are few breathers in between, mostly in the first half. There is also an almost artificial sense of urgency in the plot that can slowly drive you insane in good ways and bad ways. The plot felt kind of rough and clunky at times, but at least it felt like the writers sort of knew the direction they wanted to go. Overall, I found it to be quite entertaining with some interesting characters and cool visuals and a passable plot

Thanks for those little reviews on Heroic Age. I can't seem to make up my mind as to whether I want to watch it or not, so if anyone else wants to include their thoughts on the anime, I would be very appreciative. When it first came out, I slapped it onto my want-to-watch list on impulse, but somewhere along the line I got tired of HH's character designs that all look exactly the same and never checked it out.

I know, dood. Hulu presents itself as the one salvation from the Animation Age Geto that the UK is NEVER going to get itself out of and we get locked out like chumps regardless of the contnet.

It's like, why bother?

And don't anyone come in saying "Say BAWWW to the R2 companes" because A) 95% of all R2 Companies consists of chimps on Keyboards who couln't price/author dvd/breathe thier way out of a wet paper bag, never mind an economical crisis B) Whining at them when Funimation is able and willing to let me watch thier shows with no issue on Funimation.com presents itself as a waste of time.
