Huh, interesting, especially since I thought the original author was rewriting the books as well. But at least this way the rest of us might find out how the series ended!

Good news and all, but is there any danger of getting the final volume of the original series in English?

A Knock me over with a feather announcement. Completely unexpected. I'm not going to hope for a US license though. I'm still waiting for the final volume of the original series to get its US release. Are you listening, Kodansha?

Oh, does this mean there is a chance of a second anime series too? That would be so cool

I was thinking the same thing. I really enjoyed the anime.

My understanding is that the anime wasn't painted into a corner by wrapping things up with a finale that would have been inconsistent with what subsequently happened in the manga, so I'd say there's perhaps a better chance than with series that did. At any rate, since this is just the initial announcement regarding the manga it might be a while before we would even hear rumours about an anime continuation. I wouldn't bet money on it, but there is perhaps some reason for cautious optimism.

The last novel was published in 1994 but the story was left incomplete.
As much as I hate to say it, there's no hope for it to be completed.
Just what does the author think by leaving it incomplete?!!!!

A new anime series would be nice, as well.

I would love it if a new anime series came from this. I have slightly more hopes for that getting over here than the manga. =_=
(no, not still bitter about Kodansha never finishing Ghost Hunt, noope.)

I really liked the anime much more than the manga. I would love to see a second season of this if it ever makes it to anime!
very neat!

Please let there be more anime. Please! Coincidentally, I'm watching it now.
Sadly, I won't get into the manga, just because I don't read manga, but here's hoping so many of you get it which helps lead to another animation production.

@Mesonoxian Eve
Not to worry, this is one of those shows where if you have seen the anime, you have seen the manga. I think they changed the order of some of the individual stories but that is all.
The manga did continue beyond the anime, but that arc was not completed in the Del Ray publication.
