Quote: | The producers have yet to announce which, if any, of the three anime that the Warner Brothers project will most follow, or how it will deal with the copyright dispute between Harmony Gold's partner Tatsunoko Production and the creators of Macross (the most popular of the three anime). |
It would make sense to do the most popular and accepted, the Macross Saga. And I'm sure Harmony Gold would support it would be assumeable that they'd be working with Warner on this. Doesn't HG have the rights to the Macross everywhere but Japan anyway? I imagine they'd never see the release, nor would they want to. Hell, I don't even want to because I despise HG, but I can't say I wouldn't go see the movie simply to pretend it's actually Macross and not Hobotech. And I'd buy my ticket the way I will for the DB movie, by paying for another movie, preferably something like a dumb chick flick. I propose everyone else do the same.

To each his own...I still have a warm place in my heart for the "Macekred" version of the show, so I'm looking forward to this. I'm sorry, and no offense to the diehards, but I'll take Rick Hunter and Veritechs over Hikaru Ichijo and Valkyries any day.

That's what HG claims, but the Japanese creators disagree. According to the two court cases, both sides have claims to Macross in Japan and everywhere else. That's why that Robotech Shadow Chronicles video had no new Macross visuals.

Its been over 20 years and Harmony Gold still has licensing rights? I just hope other Japanese production companies learn to take better care of their properties after this.

HG if anything is interfering with protential good business in the US by blocking these titles coming in. I'm sorry, but I've seen clips of Shadow Chronicles, the animation is terrible. Any single episode of Macross Zero trumps it, and they were produced years earlier.

You're a guy I agree with 90% of the time. It's sad that something as sacred as this goes into the other 10% category.

We can agree to disagree, then, right? No hard feelings over our preferences, right?
Regardless of what you want to call it, I still think Voltron has a better chance of doing well than this, maybe. It just seems to me that Voltron is more suited to a live-action movie than Macross, maybe that's just me.

Macross is overrated, if you ask me. I prefer Mospeada.
Either way, I'm feeling very "meh" towards the whole Robotech thing. Even though I grew up with Robotech, I've since learned the truth about the evils of American companies butchering Japanese shows. I couldn't care less for movies like Shadow Chronicles (or was it Shadow Warrior Chronicles? ). I don't see the big deal about Harmony Gold clinging to their rights on it. It's all business, right?

I thought Shadow Chronicles was a disaster but apparently the producers are planning a sequel. How did this crap make enough of a profit to allow them to entertain thoughts of making another one?

Look at it this way: what they did to the three series is nothing compared to the horrors 4Kids has committed. Seriously, Robotech is child's play compared to the current masters of butchery.

i'll have to agree with you here as well, the americanized names actually make more sense for the show than the Japanese ones do, though i like Valkyrie more than Veritech.

Agreed. It's just that I used to be crazy for "Robotech". Then I learned the story behind it and was kind of disillusioned. I have since watched the original Japanese of Genesis Climber Mospeada (my favourite of the three series) and discovered that it isn't much better, though. So basically, I'm quite indifferent as to whether it's "Robotech" or not "Macross/Southern Cross/Mospeada".

Plus, unless I'm mistaken, the basic story of Macross remains the same (I know Southern Cross and Mospeada were altered significantly, however). And it can be enjoyed without watching the other parts of the Robotech trilogy, so that's a plus. And, I always liked the robot designs of Macross the best; Masters and New Generation's robots felt bland/weak by comparison.
It could also have to do with the fact that I had the original Jetfire as a kid.

Except these are shows people could actually care about. 4kids only rips apart shows aimed at children, and localizes and edits them for children of a different culture. I agree that some edits are completely stupid, but I don't can't take anyone seriously arguing for Yugioh being a complex work of anime.

Although I don't understand your preference, definitely no hard feelings. Before Speed Racer crashed and burned at the box office, I would have agreed with you about Voltron. Now, I have a lot of doubt. Again, after seeing Speed Racer, I can already picture Hollywood making another effects-driven/ bad storyline/ cardboard characters production that it specializes in.
