I've looked through the topics in the forum and not one is about Studio Ghibli productions, why is this? They are the most creative, meaningful, symbolic and addictive anime I have ever seen. All you Miyazaki and Takahata fans tell me which Studio Ghibli films was in ur opinion the best, and if you don't like Studio Ghibli why not? Wink

My favourite Studio Ghibli anime is either Laputa: Castle in the Sky or Princess Mononoke. In fact I love all of Miyzaki's work, nothing wrong with Takahata though... Very Happy

Princess mononoke rules...it has to be one of my favorite, i went out and bought it with out even seeing it first. i was thunderstruck, the animation was aswom, story line great and really good voice acting. Gods and Daemons is allways an aswom concept.

I really enjoyed Princess Mononoke, that's why I added it to my collection. I haven't seen Laputa: Castle in the sky as of yet, but trust me, I'll get around to it.

Kiki's Delivery service is another one of Miyazaki's (hope I spelled that correctly) works that I've enjoyed; Hopefully, in the coming months I'll be able to view more of his films: Spirited Away, Grave of the Fire Flies, etc.

I'm pretty sure there have been a few threads on Studio Ghibli in this forum, there are a lot of people here who respect the work that they do. So, rest assured, you're not alone.

Kiki's Delivery Service was alright but not one of the outstanding ones. It didn't have that angels and demons conept in it. Spirited Away was fantastic because anybody could watch it and understand it in different ways, it had good vs evil, identity, courage, environmental issues even it was very good.

Perhaps it's because no titles have been released or shown on television for the first time in a while. I suspect you'll see alot about Ghibli/Pre-Ghibli when Nausicaa and Porco Rosso are released on Region 1 DVD and alot of people get to see them for the first time in February.

I love every Miyazaki film and I own all of them. It would be too hard to pick my favorite. They are all different and I like them all better than the others in different ways (if that makes sense). So i don't have a favorite, but I am obessed with the flims too.

No you're not the only one obsessed i have seen and own them all exept nazuca and porco rosso.

Does anyone know if the troma version of totoro is edited or seen the new disney version?
Castle in the sky was amazing.
Did miazaki have anything to do with robot carnival? is that ever going to be rereleased?
I was so exited when I heard that mononoke was coming out I had a freind of mine in the navy tape it in the theater then his wife read all the dialoge in english onto the tape. Just to get my hands on it. the week it came out in japan. but i own several legal copeis and saw it in theaters twice so i think its ok.

You're not the only one. Me and one of my friends are also quite a bit into Ghibli, or perhaps I should say Miyazaki. The only time I have been disappointed by the sensei was when I watched Panda! Go Panda! but then it's not a Ghibli production (made in 1972 so the animation is crude). I'll readily admit Spirited Away was what upped my interest level in anime from casual to fan (gladly watched anime before that but never seriously thought of making it into a hobby).

The film probably also recruited more fans in Finland than any other anime that came before (including Robotech). It actually belongs to the rather exclusive club of films that have played for a year in Finnish movie theaters. Come to think of it, Spirited Away is probably the _only_ animated film to have stayed that long on the repertoire in my country.

After that the importers even dared to release a version of The Cat Returns that had been dubbed into Finnish. I enjoyed the very competent dub but I noticed the audience was laughing a good deal more than me (yet more confirmation that in the end I prefer subtitles). Still, if this gets kids hooked on anime I'm all for more dubs (the DVDs will in any case include an audio track for the original language).

A very common misunderstanding. In fact, Hayao Miyazaki never participated in the production of Grave of the Fireflies. See its Encyclopedia entry or (if you can read Japanese) this page for a complete list of cast and staff.

As for Miyazaki's films, I love all of them, especially Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, and Porco Rosso. On the contrary to Nausicaa movie (which has rather simplistic good guys vs. bad guys), Princess Mononoke conveyed an important message just like Nausicaa manga: there's no clear right or wrong; every creature is just looking for a way to survive. While Castle in the Sky didn't excel in its story compared with Princess Mononoke, it's the best all-round anime movie and is suitable for everyone. And Porco Rosso...I think I'm just getting old and it reflects my mind quite well. Wink

And a message to madaudet03: please pay more attention to spelling and grammar. I can hardly understand what you are talking about. Fifth Amendment rights?! Posting on this forum means you already gave it up. Twisted Evil

I think Studio Ghibli has some of the most original and intelligent stories ever! Very Happy

My absolute favourite is Spirited Away, it's such a captivating piece of work that works so many things into its plot but manages to stay a film for all the family and such. I hope to collect many more Studio Ghibli films especially works of Miyazaki sensei. Wink

well, i love those movies, not generally Studio Ghibli, but all of Miyazaki's work.

Nausicaa, Laputa, Toroto, Lupin the 3rd and the Castle of Cogliostro. they're just pleasent to watch, you dont get that with many anime these days.

I like the Studio Ghibli/Miyazaki films that I've seen so far, that being Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. I would also like to see Kiki's Delivery Service and Howl's Moving Castle as well.
