How far Lupin has fallen... It can't get sales OR ratings this season. I guess Japan has just kinda moved on from that series and type of anime.

Huh? the 2.7% rating is extremely good for a 2 am show. Even after a big drop this week it's still higher than Fairy Tail. As far as sales go... I don't think DVDs or BDs have even been solicited yet for the new Lupin series

1.2% rating is quite bad for an anime that used to be popular among the mainstream. Didn't the specials do in the 5-7% range?

Are you aware of the difference between a special airing at primetime and a tv show aired at 2 am? Those are kind of different time-slots.

Yeah, they used to like good shows.

All right, all right, sorry, but if you're going to be a little smug, retaliation in kind is due.

I don't know anything about how to judge the performance of these series, but if it's struggling, I think it might be because it had ambitions that moved it past both possible audiences. It's artwork falls outside of what the typical late-night anime fans are used to, but it also deters the 'nostalgic' crow because it doesn't play by the rules of Lupin III as it's put Fujiko in the lead and has a different narrative style than is familiar for the franchise. It tried something different and maybe it's being hurt by that.

For the sake of balance, but not false equivalence, you might follow Ben Ettinger at Anipages who just doesn't think it's all that great. (And Zac Bertschy has expressed dissatisfaction with the stories on ANNcast)

I remember hearing that a lot of the fanbase was upset about the new voices too. I'm not sure if that really hurt its ratings or if people were just complaining but still watched it regardless.

The episode after that one got 2.3% which is fine (and the one that aired this week got 2.1%). Maybe the third episode was facing more competition on the other channels or not as many people tuned in that night for whatever reason. Point is, it seems to be a one time drop.

Ratings are irrelevant for late-night anime. They are essentially infomercial slots.

Nyaruko-san's going to be the best seller of the season, for example. SenColle's managed to scrape up some actual preorders in the last week or so, so it may just sell badly, instead of be a complete failure. Medaka Box is more up in the air though.

I was going to comment on the super low ratings for Nyaruko...being surprised at it, but not really since it's projected to sell really well.

I find it interesting that it seems more people in the Kansai region are watching it than in the Kanto region.

I like the premise for Toriko, it looks like it could be fun.

The most interesting one on these lists I think is Gundam Age. That is a terrible rating for a weekend primetime slot. Especially considering something like Kamen Rider in a similar timeslot does like 8%...

I'm not sure even Gunpla sales will dig them out of that hole at this rate. Considering there are only the 3 Gundams, and the only other good mobile suit was Woolfs...

It doesn't help that the per-volume sales are also sitting at under 2k when at their budget they probably need like 12k to break even.

I think the fanbase would've settled down by now since the cast change happened during the last TV special. Not to mention a younger cast is appropriate as the Lupin Gang is also.

As a side comment I have heard in othe messageboards that Sengoku Collection seems to be the lowest selling anime in history (even Below Shiki) O_o
