Searched around a bit and didn't find a thread that covered this specifically, so I'm starting my own.

Just curious to find what scenes or moments others have found to be the scariest among all the anime they have seen, as I feel that it is pretty rare to come across a moment in anime that is truly scary.

-Post the show it comes from.
-A title for the moment, as well as the moment itself with context if it is needed
-Why you remember it as the scariest moment in anime: the visuals, the scenario, the sound design, etc...

Scary is a somewhat vague term, but that is also a point that interests me. Whether the moment you post is the scariest moment because of shock value, gore, or it is psychologically disturbing, fear inducing, hopelessly depressing, haunting, etc.

-It doesn't necessarily have to be from a horror show.

-Try to use spoiler tags as often as possible. The moment may not be a big plot point, but it is clearly a very powerful scene if you are mentioning it, so just tag it.

-I would actually prefer if you did not list the episode number that the scene takes place so that those who haven't seen it yet don't get a chance to brace themselves for it.

Show:
When They Cry - Higurashi

Moment:
The Needle - Honestly, for me, context isn't even needed for this to have horrified me. It was just the idea of this happening that bothered me for.... any time I remember it really. But I'll give some context because it actually did enhance it that much more: Main character Keichi Maebara recently moved into small rural town Hinamizawa and made some friends at school. Everything seems to be going well, until he hears about a grisly murder that took place in Hinamizawa a few years ago, and something called Oyashiro's curse that happens every year where one person is killed and another goes missing. His friends begin acting suspicious as though they are hiding things from him. A detective comes to Keichi and tells him to be wary around his new friends as they may be connected to what happened. More things happen that escalate Keichi's paranoia to the point that he decides to stay home from school. Here is where the moment happens. spoiler[His friends Mion and Rena show up at his house at night to give him some food and for him to try to figure out who made which...riceball? meat bun? I'm not exactly sure what they were, but they were each labeled with a letter. This isn't really out of place because they are part of a game club where they come up with all sorts of games to play. Anywho, Keichi takes a bite out of one of these and BAM! He immediately spits it out into his hand to find.... a needle inside of it.]

Reason:
My reaction to this was my main reason for declaring it the scariest moment in anime. I paused it right here and pretty much freaked out about this for like 30 minutes. About how not impossible it is for this to happen. For the next week I was really careful aboutspoiler[ inspecting any food I ate. Like... if he swallowed that... that could have killed him.] I don't think I ever really got over this moment, I just try not to think about it. I was also petrified for Keichi in the show as this confirmed all of the paranoia for me and it instantly put me into retaliation mode.

The second I see the opening credits to Suzuka, I drop into a fetal position, cowering in fear I'll have to spend the next 26 episodes watching a mask-less Michael Meyers chasing a high school girl who can play sports well but can't utter more than two words in a sentence without screaming.

Other scary moments in anime:
-"We're sorry, but your order of Strike Witches 2 has been delayed."

-"Due to the lack of sales, we're going to drop the license to this series. Nevermind the fact you spent countless hours and dollars supporting it because you enjoyed it, but the fact is: your friends did not, so screw you."

-"We're introducing anime as two part collections so you don't realize you're paying nearly $100 for a single season."

KY jelly sold separately.
