There has been nothing about this since halfway through last year. These aren't full-length feature films, so I don't see why they're taking this long on the rest.

Which release do you mean; official Japanese, official English, or fansubs?
Only the first three episodes are out on fansubs, it is rather annoying. |

So am I to understand that the encyclopaedia entry is merely behind?

Uh, behind on what? How is the entry behind?
It seems as if the show got released on Blu-Ray and flopped spectacularly. Volume one sold 1,000 copies in its first week, volume two sold 846 copies in its first week and volume three sold 774 copies in its first week. Those figures are appalling. I would like the rest of the episodes to come out on fansubs, it was an interesting series. |

It claims to have only one release, for volume one on 2011-06-03. Unless I am misunderstanding something, it should have three, right?
EDIT: Also, maybe the reason it's flopping is because of the way they decided to release it. Why the hell would you release each episode on its own blu-ray volume? I'd understand if they were all feature-length, but come on, really? Blu-ray isn't cheap. You want people to buy, you better box that shit. |

There were definitely at least three volumes released in Japan.
Further problems/issues with the release schedule was how it was direct-to-video (i.e. no televised broadcast run) and yet it was also shown in cinemas and streamed on the internet. Such a wide release might have worked if it was managed properly, but it obviously didn't. I reckon if they'd just released the show normally - show it on T.V., then sell it on Blu-Ray - it would have been reasonably successful. I suppose the real issue was the very high budget and time consuming motion-capture animation techniques used. This would have meant that each episode took too long to make (so the series would struggle to make one a week) and the need to recoup the high monetary investment, hence the cinematic run. But what we got in the end was a seemingly-good Anime but a bloody mess of a release schedule. Doesn't help either that the company behind it went bankrupt. |

That's Standard Operating Procedure for OVAs in Japan. |

It's not an OVA though; it's billed as a TV series.
Though I'm not sure that it matters much. |

According to the Japanese websiteVol. 4 was to be released 11/23/11, Vol. 5 was to be released 12/21/11, and Vol. 5 was to be released 1/25/12. So obviously something is very wrong.

At this point, I'd reason that it is an abandoned project, or if not, one that has been delayed indefinitely.
Can't say that I'm really all that sad about it though. Maybe it's because I saw the films first, but these just seemed rather lacklustre, from the animation quality, to the characterisation, to the plot. I didn't take to it. Frankly, Appleseed: Genesis sounded like a much more interesting project before it was cancelled. |

Well, if it has been abandoned, perhaps sometime in the future it will be resurrected. One can only hope. |
