i was just wondering what peoples oppinions about the show the girl who leapt through time. to me the storyline sounds great and the animation looks superb! but i have purchased animes in the past and they seemed great on the trailer, but when i got down to watching it, it just didn't seem all that great. so im just wanting to get some personal oppinions about the show. im all about storyline and violence is a plus, but as we all know it certainly isnt everything. so please feel free to give me your oppinions. thanks!

I absolutely enjoyed it. Violence is no biggie, but it's story is still quite terrific and characterization top-notch. One of those films that leaves me with a nice feeling afterward.

Hi Caleb, and welcome.
I absolutely loved it. It was basically a teen drama infused with sci-fi, but I mean teen drama in the best sense of the phrase. These were probably the most realistically depicted teenagers I've seen in anime so far; and they got the few years in almost everyone's life, usually happening from mid to late teens, when their friends temporarily trump their family in importance right on the money. Some of the conversations could have come straight from a typical day I might have had with my two best male friends.
Not very violent - without giving anything away something terrible happens, but the screen shifts away right at the critical moment - so I wouldn't watch it for that. But if you want a laugh-and-cry type story, you can't get much better.

I loved The Girl Who Lept Through Time (and would watch it again before I would watch Paprika again) and would recommend it highly.
I was surprised by how much I was able to get caught up into the lives of the characters in such a short movie, and care about them and what happened to them.
Paprika is a different sort of movie and hard to compare to TGWLTT.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is one of the best movies I saw last year ('07) and one states-side releases I anticipated the most. It's rare nowadays for movies to to be liscensed so I was really happy to learn that 3 that I had watched, this one, Paprika, and Sword of the Stranger, were. Now if only some kind soul would pick up the Kara no Kyoukai movies I would be set.
Anyhow, back to the movie it really only has one flaw in my view which is that the ending is too open-ended and a little confusing. It's hard to tell whether it's a happy ending or a sad one. An epilouge would have been nice. Otherwise, it's a briliant and heart-warming film, very well animated, and had great characters.

I find Paprika eminently rewatchable. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, less so.
That said, remember, you can just rent it, you don't have to buy it.

My thoughts on that are that (Major spoilers!)it was supposed to be slightly confusing because Makoto herself was confused until Chiaki revealed his status to her and explained what he'd done to bring Kosuke and his potential girlfriend back to life. Personally, I thought it was awesome how we weren't given even the slightest hint that Chiaki was going to be a Deux ex Machina. I think the ending was happy, with the implication that Makoto won't make the same mistake as her aunt before her and will be ready when Chiaki finds her again. We're left to make up our own minds, but I think we're given enough to work with to make a good assumption that Makoto will reunite with Chiaki again although it will be a while before that happens, and they'll get a happily ever after with Kosuke as their lifelong best friend, albeit in a slightly different dynamic once they're double dating instead of hanging out as a trio. That's the way I read it anyway.

Paprika is one of my favorite anime movies ever. It's one of the carzyest things that I have ever seen. There's no suprice there seeing as it was directed by Satoshi Kon (Paranoia Agetn, Tokyo Godfathers, Perfect Blue) As for The Girl Who Leaped Through Time I have to sadly admit that I still haven't seen this one yet. But I've heard it's amazing. So I'd just cough up the money to get both.

Best $21 I spent on anime this year, easy. It was a much welcome change from what I usually watch, and I had a great time watching it. The characters felt REAL, with a few notable exceptions, and I believed almost every line. The plotline was solid, and I couldn't help but care how it all ended.
