Ahh, that's from a specific user who was a pain in the neck. Mad If I recall correctly s/he was warned several times before getting banned.

I saw a few of those too. The most interesting "source" I've seen so far though was a porn site Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop

This sponsoring an audit thing, how does this work? Like, what specifically does one need to do if a show has the genre adventure listed and one feels it would be more accurately listed as action?

Grab bag of reponses:

Got rid of the "shoujo" audits. Shoujo (and shounen and seinen and josei) will never be coming back. Ever.

From now on, audits will first be picked from your "seen all" anime, then "seen soom", then "will not finish". Previously the order was undefined but it seems like "seen some" anime was coming out first.

gothic, school, steam punk, cyber punk and magical girl are allowed as themes. Anything you can think of is ok, really, as long as it fits the definition for theme. And if something turns out to be not ok we'll fix it then.

There's no set limit on how long an audit can last. It runs until a decision is reached with a simple majority of 12 votes (e.g. 12 vs 0, 13 vs 1, 14 vs 1 vs 1, ...)

When voting for "discard", it means discard. It's not counted as a vote for any other genre.

To sponsor an audit, click the button "Report an error in this page" at the bottom of the page and then click the "audit" icon next to the genre/theme that you think is incorrect.

I've been seeing audits for "bishojo" (and figure it's only time before it's "bishounen" as well). Would these be acceptable/should they be gotten rid of like shoujo was? Generally, even the most bishounen-filled series isn't really supposed to be about bishounen/bishoujo. It's just the added eye candy.

But bishounen can fit into a description like "if you wanted a bishounen anime, would you watch this?" So while it may not be *about* bishounen, I can definitely imagine people wanting to search for bishounen anime.[/quote]

Thanks for the clarification. It fits one part, as you pointed out, but didn't fit the other part of the definition/guideline, so I wanted to be certain.

Some of the themes do seem a bit peculiar and others are essentially duplicates:

power suits (does this really fit the definition of a theme and, if it does, are we going to have themes for every concievable type of clothing? I'm guessing "panties" will be the winner. Or possibly the person who came up with that one doesn't remember 1980s fashion and actually meant "powered armour / exoskeleton".)
another world (wouldn't this be covered by the "fantasy" genre?)
burning manly passion (Rolling Eyes)
bishoujo / bishojo (surely these should be combined under one heading)
hot girls (pretty subjective and could also be combined with the above)

Also, now that there are an ever growing number of themes, it would be a big help if they were in alphabetical order.

[Edited for clarity]

I just had an audit for a series from my "will not finish" mixed in with the "seen all"s.

Since it's been stated that duplicate audits are bugs, I'd like to mention I also had a duplicate while auditing: Theme "Historical" for Chrono Crusade.

That happened before I said it was a bug right? Because I wrote that after fixing the bug, so it shouldn't happen anymore.

I just got this one as a duplicate as well.

I sometimes feel like I am simply working against others and wonder if it's really worth it.
I may be too strict about some of the audits, but when it says "would you watch it for X alone?" I think "no" often, even if it has some of that element in it. I also rephrase in my own head sometimes, "If someone asked me for a romance (or whatever) recomendation, would I list X?" I wouldn't count Gundam Seed or Armitage III Polymatrix as romances, despite them having a small amount maybe in them.

Does anyone else feel this way?

I know how you feel but I can't think of a better way of cleaning things up. It'll be interesting to see how things stand in a few months when the dust has settled.

I would like to see stricter guidelines for people either entering or auditing both genres and themes (possibly with some examples of dos and don'ts given for guidance).

The new audit system seems to be trimming the number of genres per titles quite admirably, but I wonder if the database will experience a dramatic increase in the number of themes as a response. Is there a limit to the number of themes a title can have?

To contain a possible increase in the number of themes maybe the genre search could include a word search focused on plot summaries specifically. I kinda get the feeling that people are just trying to deconstruct the plot summary and turn it into every possible theme. Then why not search the plot directly?

Unfortunately I kinda feel that it would consequently result in the increase in the demand of plot summary changes, which would be a real pain for the editors.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Strange... the theme police appears twice on Death Note's page. Was it caused by the new auditing system or was it already there?

Should capital letters on themes be seen as a problem too?
Themes: Police, Police, shinigami, Suicide

After an audit has reached a decision, will the audit button still appear when trying to report an error?

I guess a lot of people feel that way about democracies.

I know what you mean. I feel the same. I'm sure there are a lot of enthusiasts who would mark Gundam Seed/Destiny as "romance", but if they'd stopped and asked themselves whether this anime is really driven by the romantic relation of its protagonists, the answer would be no.

EDIT: What does it mean when I click the "I volunteer!" button and I get directed back to the same page?

It means you've finished all the outstanding audits on the titles in your list. Until people subsequently add more themes / genres to titles you've watched or read (or you add new titles to your list) you won't have any more to do.

There are a lot of liberals in a democracy, and I was simply stating I feel there are a lot pf people being less strict in definitions and more liberal in this than perhaps they should be. Wink I was trying to politely phrase a new thought for some of those liberals who may read this thread.

Can someone edit the themes if there is a spelling error? I noticed that priests and priestesses was spelled wrong (preists and preistesses)

I must say I love the theme "Manly Burning Passion." I haven't looked at what anime is listed as such, but it is an amusing theme.

I'm starting to get really worried about themes getting out of control. It would be much better if themes were added only if a minimum quantity of people suggested it. In the current system it seems that one person creates a mess and at least 12 people have to clean that mess up. A threshold would minimize the possibility of spelling errors, control the quantity of themes in the encyclopedia, and could slightly guarantee that the proposed term will be used on the genre search by more than a handful of individuals.

Themes are visual elements you'll find in the story. Manly Burning Passion is exactly the kind of thing that should be avoided but that will probably proliferate if something isn't done to stop it.
