Due to all the action of the previous season I kind of forgot how fun the show is when they focus on building up their territory and dealing with issues that pop up. Such a calm/relaxing vibe, there is a reason why that slice of life spin-off was worth watching.

I am enjoying every episode yet there is truth to people saying that like half of the season so far has consisted of meetings to discuss events. Slime is not a fast paced show but it is getting to be a tad much now.

I don't generally read other boards or comments - I just chose this one and stuck with it I guess - but just to make it official, I'm one of the people saying, "We're four episodes in, stop talking and break something already." There should be a balance in these things IMHO, and I have a feeling this one's going to be talk, talk, talk, talk,, and then fight, fight, fight, fight. Which I guess is kind of a balance, but I'd prefer some talk, fight, talk, fight myself.
(Self proclaimed champion of the nuanced review).

I mean, it's been six episodes straight of people just sitting around tables talking. I think, in animated form especially, this really falls into an issue of "telling, not showing". It works better in literary form, but anime is fundamentally a visual medium... and in this context, it's basically everyone saying what they're going to do so we know ahead of time who's going to be where and doing what, and then we'll just... see it play out later. When we were already told what's going to happen.
I basically like Slime Tensei, and worldbuilding does have its place. But for the love of Nep, you could at least use the talking time to showcase the different places and the daily lives of the citizens or something.

Yeah, I tend to like anime that have a lot of talking in it (when done well) but there is such a thing as having too much of it in a row. The time for breaking has commenced though, seems like those seven not at all shady looking robed dudes have set everyone up. The fighting started before there was the chance to peacefully talk things out. From the look of things I expect the holy forces to get steamrolled.

Yup, that was a relatively easy victory for the monster country. Their fights ending does not mean that the situation has been resolved though, those robed guys seem to have several plans still in motion. There is also Diablo and that human king situation.

It was still an awful lot of setup for what amounted to the voice in Rimuru's head just making an ability and solving the danger to him all on its own. Very... anti-climactic for that amount of setup. I was never very enthusiastic about victories that are too easy for the protagonists (and goodness knows there's enough of THAT in isekai), but I think the sheer amount of people-around-a-table-talking we had for something that required essentially no effort by the protagonists to resolve made this bit feel worse than I suspect it was intended to be.

Welp, Slime has built up enough good will and interest in the fate of the characters that I'll stick with it through a lot of so so. But I will say that an odd sort of shift has occurred now that I'm watching Slime and Tsukimichi Moonlit side by side. When I first started watching Tsukimichi Moonlit, I kind of thought of it as Slime lite. Both Isekai are about an individual trying to guide the formation of a diverse community of monsters in a world largely populated by humans whose kingdoms are somewhat linked by a powerful church. But as of right now, Tsukimichi Moonlit is kicking Slime's @$$ all over the place in my estimation. and perhaps this is making me more critical of Slime than I might be otherwise.

I dropped this way back in its first season due to Slime's OPness but I thought I'd pop into the discussion thread for poops and chortles. Wow. You guys sat through 7 episodes of characters sitting around a table? Impressive.

Look at you being all smuggy smuggerson since you knocked your number of anime down to the point where there's only a 1 in front of the double digits instead of a 2 You're like a person who's just gone on a diet going into a breakfast bar with friends and going "How can you eat that?"
Well, I don't begrudge you your moment. The main reason I've stuck with the first half of this season is that it wasn't complete torture. There were some interesting character interactions and for the first episode or 2 I needed some recaps. I remember dropping Slime for a bit at first, but then later, when the whole season was out and dubbed so that I could play it in the background while I did some boring mindless work on the computer, I binged season 1 and found myself getting into it.
I do that sometimes. For example, I put Attack on Titan on hiatus until it finally stopped #$%^ing around and finished up. And I'm currently not watching My Hero Academia just because I got sick of watching the slow descent into grimness and societal collapse week after week after week. And I was a huge My Hero Academia fan, as my avatar should testify. I'll binge the show to its conclusion once the All for One storyline is finally over.
I guess my point is (kind of surprised I had one) that might be a viable strategy for this season of Slime.

It often comes down to pacing. Good pacing (plus solid writing) can make even 5 episodes of table talk exciting enough. With some mediocre or just plain bad pacing even exciting content can become a drag over time, this goes especially when there is nothing to break up the pace and provide in a clean palette. Some arcs are also just too long and samey.

This joint really needs a "cheesy grin" emote. Yes, it's true, I have become one of those annoying addiction converts who is even more hardcore than somebody who never fell prey to said addiction in the first place. And honestly, what prompted my comment even more than the thought of sitting through 7 episodes of talking heads was the observation that in the end it didn't really matter because Slime merely did the OP thing anyway, easy peasy.
But hey, if y'all are enjoying this, more power to ya.
...
My dripping scorn and contempt came through, yes?
I KID, I KID!!!
Hell, I used to be just like you losers.

I wonder how long it will be until you fall off the wagon, we all know how much of an addict you were/are Blood, sooner or later you will feel the urge again....

Ah, smurky, you know me all too well... I'm sure by next season I'll be all like, "Well, I've managed to trim my list down to a mere 78 shows, but it's absolutely critical I watch them all! Metallic Rouge 2? Yes, please!"

I kind of feel like swiveling an interrogation spotlight on Blood and yelling, "Admit it! You're secretly sitting around in your underwear - at least I hope it's your underwear - watching anime around the clock while writing fan fiction about Sailor Moon getting isekai'd into Naruto's world and helping train the preadolescent girls of his village to repel a mecha attack on their village with the power of magical song and dance!"
