Post your suggestions for MyAnime, as well as your endorsals (i.e. "I want that too"). The posts will be deleted when the suggestion is implemented or denied. We'll try to keep a list of denied suggestions with the reasoin why.
TODO: [Playboi] Divide / Organize list by format (OAV / Movie / TV) [Samurai CDZ] When titles are added to Seen some/all, have those titles checked by default so it's easier to rate them and/or write a comment. Allow me to suggest a genre affinity score system.
Nearly every anime is grouped into one or more genres. When you list an anime in Seen Some, Seen All, Will Not Finish, or in some custom lists, then add a point score based on the rating to each of the genres to which that anime belongs - starting with zero points for Worst Ever, and +1 point for each step up the rating ladder. That way, each user will have a display, showing his current sum rating for all his rated anime in each genre - giving an indication of which genre(s) he feels most affinity for. Then we search-by-genre. It's not a recommendation system similar to the Amazon.com stuff, but it would probably be a helluva lot more easy to implement in code. |

And yet another idea from me
It would be nice if the My Collection pages had a column indicating whether or not you've seen something you own. Maybe have a column that says "Seen?" at the top and either a check box or "Seen All" or "Seen Some". The check box would allow the user to check that title and then press a button at the bottom that says "Record as Seen Some" or "Record as Seen All". I'm suggesting this because I often buy anime and manga but don't get around to watching them for a while. Then later after I’ve seen it, I want to add it to one of the “Seen” categories. But since I have a lot of titles in each list I usually have to switch back and forth for a while and I still miss some. ***[EDIT]I guess the opposite would be nice also; putting a "Own?" column in the seen lists.[/EDIT] (As a side note) I know everyone at ANN is busy with more important things, but when would we hear about what ideas will or will not be accepted as a possibility. |

How about the adding The Anime Matchmaker Service?
Members could enter their age and gender preferences and what kind of relationship they were interested in (friendly, romantic) then they would be matched-up with other members based on their anime tastes from their My Anime ratings. |

Oh, yeah, I can just see it, as ANN expands into the world of Internet dating services: "Male tentacle-porn hentai fetichist, 22, in Rhode Island seeks like-minded female. No smokers. Pictures only." No. Please. - abunai |

I have a similar idea, but not as far-fetched as matchmaker service.
What I had in my mind is allow users to see who else has seen their favorite work, especially if this title is not something mainstream and well-known like Cowboy Bebop, Kenshin or Naruto. A feature like this could be very useful when looking for people who can share your rather niched interest. For example, both abunai and I love Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou and we listed in our "My Anime," but I have no idea who else at ANN had seen it. It will take forever and is kinda crazy to browse though all users who has made their "My Anime" public. Another useful feature would be adding a link to one's "My Anime" (whenever it's set to be public) within one's profile. Therefore when I want to see which anime he/she has seen, I don't have to open another window for "My Anime," click the Public Lists, and scroll through hundred of names to find his/her name. |

Could you maybe make it possible to choose which title is listed in My Anime if it has multiple titles? Ex. The DBZ Movies look out of place in my anime list when they're listed only be number.

Add Japanese name to the companies in the case they are Japanese... also eventhough it could be hard identify the Country of the Company, I would love also to be able to see companies catogories as well (example: Animation studio, audio studio, dubbing company, distribution company)

Is there any way to change the front page of MyAnime from loading all four lists? I takes a while to load each time I go in to change one title in my Seen Some list. This is probably only minor problem, that affects a very small group of people, so if you don't want to change anything that's fine. I just thought I'd ask, anyway.

I think it would be nice if there were other ways to display “My Anime” other than just alphabetically. For example, I would like it if it could be sorted and displayed by our ratings (“Very Good” all clumped together, “Decent” all clumped together, and so on). Being able to sort by whether it was licensed or not would also be helpful.

Is there a guide somewhere to explain how my anime/manga works? I don't understand it.

It would be cool if there was a way to have some code that we could put into our personal web sites that pull from our lists. This way people that come to our personal site can see what we watch/read etc and with a click will be lead right here to ANN.
Similar to Del.icio.us linkrolls This will build more and more users too. |

I've just spent about four hours (too many) updating my list and I came here to make some suggestions, most of which have already been made.
I'll just emphasize the most important suggestions I can make because it doesn't seem like many people are enthusiastic about this excellent feature and I'd like to see some changes made for those of us who spend some time maintaining our lists. First of all I'd like the administrators to take a look at www.myanimelist.net and see what a vibrant community it's evolved into after extensive changes have been made to the features. It's practical, useful and very interactive. I think if features as detailed as that were on ANN the already acquainted community could get a lot more social. ANN already has an irc channel and I know that it's more dedicated to the news than it's forums but nobody can deny that it's as much a social forum as an anime discussion forum. Detailed profiles with personal self-entries would not only take a lot more stress off the forums but also add another feature for the regulars to make good use of. On our profile page we could, say, mention our "Top 10 anime and 5 least favorites" (with an explanation of course ) and also our favorite characters. You could pretty much delete a couple of stickies in the anime forum with this as well as see less and less new "Favorites" posts popping up all the time. I'm not crash hot on adding personal information but it could be option. A link to My Anime list would obviously be a feature. Regarding public anime lists I've read other people mention that they're difficult to find because there's too many stagnant ones. Could you perhaps maintain how long an anime list is active to make it easier to find someone you're looking for. Also I like the idea of choosing a way for your list to appear. Everytime I load onto my Seen All page it comes up alphabetically and I almost always change it to "Rate" view, which gets frustrating seeing as how tedious maintaining a list can get. I also like the idea of finding people who've seen similar anime to your list. Perhaps also a Friends option? Also so many anime forums these days have a "Points" system which I really like but I don't know what uses ANN would have for that since there are already labeled Encyclopedia Editors and it's not completely community based. Most of all I'd like to customize My Anime list, to add a background picture and adjust what other users view etc. Also I don't know what technical issues restrict this but instead of animenewsnetwork.com/MyAnime/?user=Amasa&categ=3 would it be possible to add something like www.amasa.animenewsnetwork.com instead like what myanimelist.net has? I know that a lot of my suggestions are probably impossible to achieve because of software limitations but I'd like to see this feature get used a lot more and perhaps create its own attraction to the site instead of the forums and the other features which are completely controlled by the staff of ANN. The My Anime List is very useful but very outdated and I don't like going to other sites to do this sort of thing because the community is completely different and I think the community at ANN is the envy of every other anime site. I'd like to be able to stay on ANN and have direct use of the encyclopedia instead of always referring to here from some other site with better features but a worse atmosphere (man those Bleach fanboys are every). |
