I just love how the premier is basically the intended ending of Cour 2/Part 2.

Also Pierrot Films really living up to their name with an absolute cinema of an episode, weaving together new/expanded content and better incorporation the wider lore into the anime.

Well, the fight doesn't let any tension build because it doesn't happen in the manga, it is an anime original addendum.

Basically, the anime rearranges some things to make the fight happen, sacrificing the buildup of the original.

Honestly, I think is for the better, knowing what happens later.

Right off the bat, let's be on the same page about a few things. First and foremost, previously, the Thousand-Year Blood War reviews were written by the late Nicholas Dupree.

WAIT A FREAKING MINUTE! HE DIED!? BUT WHEN!?

this is the first time im hearing about any long time ANN reviewer passing away without warning. its tragic and a loss to say the least!

Continuing from the last part, I appreciate the anime giving us some stuff the manga should’ve (the Soul King gets an actual name?!?)

The animation and the extended Ichigo vs Juha is fun but the fight coreography feels lazy like if they are just clashing lasers even though they are actually wielding weapons. Ichigo vs Ulquiorra didn't have the same budget but Pierrot nailed their exchange of swords like if they were samurais.

- “the nine years of Yhwach gathering his strength just so happened to end now, how convenient!”}
It isn't, he took into account when to start the invasion so his powers would comeback perfectly, same reason he baited Ichigo to Hueco Mundo with The Jail (Kirge Opie) and used The Yourself (Lloyd Lloyd) to soften up Yamamoto because he believed the Old Man Yama was still as ruthless as he was during his Prime, they even explained it to you the next episode, The All Mighty can see the future.

He already saw when his powers would reappear, that's why he was so nonchalant when Ichibei was doing his Bankai flex. He essentially went full Aizen, and while Aizen planned everything out of intelligence, Ywatch did it out of knowledge.

I think maybe the anime made it seem as though it was right at that moment? I'd have to rewatch that part again. But no, we're officially in the last part of the Kaiser Gesang: The Last 9 Days. That only begins after the 9 years of the Quincy King regaining his strength.

Wow, this was way more impactful than the manga. I'm a Bleach apologist. I love this series despite it faults. But one thing that has always annoyed me was chapter 616. Didn't like it when I first read it , and on multiple rereads I still didn't like it. I wasn't even a huge Ukitake fan and I just felt like he was done dirty. The fact that this was given essentially one single chapter felt so wrong. I know people complain about Unohana, but at least she technically got a send off with Kenpachi. Ukitake got nothing. He went from saying he was going to save the Soul King, to saying he was going to sacrifice himself, to actually dying. All in a single chapter. In the blink of an eye it was all over. He was given nothing. It for me just felt like nothing. No one really seemed to care either Rukia yells for him once and he tells her to be quite and that was essentially it. Nothing more. I don't think I'm a hard man to please. I just wanted something, anything more.

And then we have this episode. From the childhood flashbacks to the goodbye to Unohana, to his talk with Rukia, to his callback to the quote he used when Kaien was fighting the Hollow, to Shunsui finishing the quote, it was truly great. It took 10 years, but man am I happy and thankful that Kubo was able to go back and redeem this moment for me. As I said, I didn't need much, and he gave me a whole lot.

Yeah, the flashback was actually my favorite part of the episode, in part because Ukitake never got a proper one in the manga. I also liked how they squeezed in the recently deceased characters. Fanservice, but the good kind.

Of course, Aizen is always a scene stealer.

It's me, I'm the disappointed Ukitake fan! I'm anime-only and Ukitake is one of my favorite characters despite his few appearances because I love kind, reasonable and serene characters. Of course I expected him to die at some point since he was so sickly and nice but this death wasn't very satisfying to me. It's like the other characters barely care except Rukia (and even then her reaction wasn't that big to me) and the Mimihagi stuff wasn't very foreshadowed.
Overall it really feels like he was one of the characters that got done dirty the most for some reason despite being Rukia's captain and one of the oldest. He never got an actual uninterrupted fight and we never even saw his bankai! The fact that the cool flashback was an addition is crazy as well. Even his actual death got overshadowed by Aizen Sad
I'm happy I watched the filler content in the original anime to see more of him.
So yeah how he was treated will remain one of the big negatives of the series for me unfortunately.

Some of the choices being made in adaptation are surprisingly sloppy, like showing Kyoraku walking up to Aizen twice (once with no eye mask and once with an eye mask) or trying to have Kyoraku calling Aizen's name be the mid-episode stinger when we already know he's going to see Aizen (and that we've already seen Aizen multiple times for that matter compared to the manga). Feel like somewhere along the chain there's miscommunication on what to include and what to cut.

This is 3-for-3 with expanding on the manga in the best way possible and giving Ukitake the best send-off possible, expanding on his backstory, his relationship with Shunsui, everything that lead up to this and making it all hit as hard as possible, especially the references to Kaien. Kubo really is doing what he probably wanted to do in the manga in anime form.

We got more Unohana!

I love how Ganju still fights like its the Soul Society arc. Also...did....did Chad lose!? Though he didn't completely hit the ground thank to Ganju, thankfully.

Hey, they actually acknowledged Orihime trying to repair the Soul King! It didn't work, but still.

How do you stop an OP villain? By freeing the other OP villain in prison.

It is a good thing that this supbar website is the only place where the Bleach mega haters gather to crap ont it like these reveiwers do every week. Literally everywhere else you look and most of the community is praising the TYBW anime and are extremely exited for every new cour. Its is only here where the supposed "journalists" "reviewers" put their hit pieces on Bleach and try to downplay it constantly.
It was like that aswell when the manga was still being serialized, this site gather the one nest of Bleach haters.

Let's not start this please. I like Bleach, but it has problems and it is perfectly fine for them to be acknowledged and discussed. And, as you say, if the ENTIRE internet is praising this adaption (doubtful)...what is stopping you from going elsewhere?

I don't need to agree with everything a reviewer says about a show I like...and I would encourage you to approach media the same. If I see an opinion I disagree with, I will try to do so without resorting to claiming some "broad conspiracy" or victimhood. (I recommend a high degree of eye rolling and sarcasm). And yes, while I personally feel that Bleach has been treated unfairly at times, I also don't think this needs to turn into the Demon Slayer review's comment section.

Bleach is getting a fantastic adaptation in ways very few anime have (ask Naruto fans how they are feeling these days), fans should take the W and move on. Not everyone has to like the same thing...and nothing in this review deserves this response...
