I can't wait, Ranma 1/2 is without a doubt my 2nd favorite anime of all time (Beaten only by Inuyasha) and I'm so happy it can get another chance at glory as it's a peak inspiration for many animes that followed it from the early 90's.

I do hope they get the old VA's back, but I do think they need to have them play other roles in the show, like Urusei Yatsura. I'm also hoping they manage to adapt some of the more later stories the OG show didn't get around too. Some of those ones are where a lot of the big character development is.

It's back! Ranma don't make me wild like you!

The biggest question mark is once [Viz] start doing the English Dub for the new Ranma anime is wether they will use Vancouver, Canada for the new series just like the original anime dub or will it be recorded in Los Angeles with a brand new voice cast in Los Angeles (Studiopolis, Bang Zoom!) over the original Vancouver cast?

Or will it be remote like Yashahime?

I strongly suspect, if they do get Megumi Hayashibara to voice a role in the remake, it'll probably be as Cologne (unless they have Ranma's mother appear a lot more often in the remake) but, as someone who has been watching anime in Japanese with English subtitles since the mid-1990s, when Megumi Hayashibara was omnipresent either in lead roles or major supporting roles, I find the idea of Megumi Hayashibara voicing a very, very old woman a little depressing.

I'm so stoked! Ranma 1/2 is my favorite series! Hopefully Maison Ikkoku is next. It'll be interesting to see what changes are made. I certainly wouldn't be sad if Happosai was cut out. lol

There were so many great manga arcs that never got an animated adaptation: serious ones like Musk Dynasty, Ryu Kumon, and Jusendo. Comic ones like 'Ryoga goes home', mushrooms of time, the cursed mirror, the battle dougi, and the fishing rod of love. Characters that never got included like Akari and Konatsu. Arcs that the original anime botched the adaptation of, like the hot springs obstacle race.

Hugely looking forward to the new anime--hopefully it'll introduce to a new generation of fans what a great series Ranma 1/2 is.

Maison Ikkoku already got an acknowledged spiritual successor this year in Astro Note, combine that with Urusei Yatsura and Inuyusha remakes and the Ranma 1/2 remake was only a matter of time.

I'm excited because Ranma really is one of those quintessential series that helped shaped modern anime into what it is today, and I have a lot of childhood nostalgia tied to the original series, but also kind of burnt out by remakes.

This could just be my bitterness though because I really wanted to see a Mao anime adaptation announced. Oh well. Maybe when the manga ends.

I think Megumi Hayashibara should finally graduate from voicing young girls, even If she can still "pull it".

We reached a decade when 2000s seiyu are starting to voice parents, and Hayashibara started working in 80s.

That said, I do think she will be new Goku one day.

Makes sense, it's the last Rumiko Takahashi weekly series after the UY remake and Inuyasha getting a sequel. I'm a bit disappointed that I'll have to wait longer for a MAO anime but I'm sure it'll happen some day.

I do wonder how they're gonna do it though, as another best of remake or pick up where they left off. I just hope the MAPPA rumors aren't true.

So it's finally happening!

I hope MAPPA put in the same level of love and effort that David Production put into the Urusei Yatsura remake along with an all-star cast. I want Ranma to have as great a remake.

A lot of the original seiyuu are still relatively active in the industry so I hope they do what Urusei Yatsura did and cast them in legacy roles.

I don't think Maison Ikkoku needs a remake because I think the original anime did an amazing job and isn't as dated.

This was a forgone conclusion the second Urusei Yatsura was announced.

Actually, no. It's rather a miracle that Ranma is getting a new(ish?) anime, same as for UY, more than three decades after it started airing in Japan. I'm wondering where all that nostalgia for the old Takahashi franchises comes from.

Movies and OVAs pushed the material to a point where only 4 volumes were left.

I thought the movies were anime originals except the short one with Kuno and the bird?

The manga and original anime were so "practically softporn" that the anime was shown uncensored in a children´s afterschool block on its original German broadcast in the 00s. This is one of the least objectionable and one of the least sexual ecchi of all time. Viz isn´t age-gating the manga either, etc. They will simply cut out the nipples, like every Rumino anime starting with Inuyasha.

Well, Germany in the early 2000s with rtl2 was definitely more open to such anime content than France in 1992-94 where some of the more notorious Ranma episodes were cut down to 17 minutes out of the original 20 minutes (minus op and ed), but in today's media landscape with streaming being predominant and TV an afterthought I don't think light nudity in anime is a problem anymore.

Oh great, physical abuse passed off as comedy. Pass.

Is there any way here to Hard Pass from seeing any other comments from you? Ranma is legendary; it's like crapping on the 97 Bulls.

The same Bulls that were walking over everyone’s team in the regular season and by that point had multiple championships which that season would end with another, which you know is a good way to get people to hate you?

I think it's flat-out unfair that Ranma 1/2 never got a full adaptation even though it ran for so many episodes and OVAs, so I'm tentatively excited about the new anime as long as they promise to cover the manga's last 4 volumes for the first time ever.

Wasn’t that because the TV ratings cratered or something during it’s original run?

Essedess wrote:
To be fair, unlike most anime like that, Ranma kind of asks for it. Sometimes literally.

Still doesn’t make instances of it better.

Like when she bopped Ranma & Ryoga for cutting her hair short during their fight……which she never grows back.

To be honest, I think it is definitely in the cards. We just have to wait for a decade or so Crying or Very sad

Nonetheless, this is great news.
