Nonononono! I hope that's wrong and that the rights they've obtained are not limited to just adapting the movies, but the AoT Franchise as a whole, more specifically the manga/anime.

If anything Hollywood based on FX work alone could easily outdo the Japanese films.

But the issue is will WB be willing to lend this the appropriate budget? They certainly have been delaying Akira specifically because the want to keep it on the cheap.

AoT's charm is it's historic period-like throw-back setting. This alone will require a big budget to reproduce sets/costumes/props/horses etc. particularly given you're creating a big walled-in city. Granted naturally that a lot of that would be CG, though it'd be nice if they went the LOTR route and used miniatures etc. combined with CG.

Will WB give AoT the budget they refuse to give Akira? And rather than a 2-film affair, I'm guessing they are likely aiming for a trilogy which could suitably adapt the entire manga efficiently once it completes. The first 2 anime seasons alone could be condensed into one well paced 2 & 1/2 hour movie.

The question remains.

Will it happen and if so, will fans like me enjoy it? Will it be true to the source?

Well, I heard good things about "Fantastic Beasts And Where to Find Them," so that's good news. What concerns me is that they called this a remake to the Japanese movies. So, they're going to follow the story of those movies? Because that's not a good idea.

We know Hollywood is never 100% with the original source. They could very well respect the canon and do a slight divergence (example: the Titan's origins) or we could end up with AoT taking place on Manhattan Island in a post-Apocalyptic setting, where the walls are made of fallen skyscrapers. But one thing we know, their CGI will be 1000x better than the Japanese CGI titans.

Though I honestly worry somewhat of the casting, since they obviously will have to change a character or two's race for PC reasons. I would worry about white-washing Mikasa, but given how much Hollywood's been catering to the Chinese, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a Chinese actress play her.

All in all, I worry about Hollywood not giving Hajime Isayama the rightful props as the original creator. They always tend to screw them, even JK Rowling didn't get much from the HP movies. (She made her profits from the book sales).

Sounds neat, but basing it on the release of the much delayed Akira doesn't sound all that good. So it may be several years from now, before we see anything if at all.

Hey, at least this time they won't have to whitewash anyone.

Mikasa will be white because the average American thinks anime characters are white
Levi will be black because "muh diversity"

Please look forward to it.

Goddammit. I wanted to make one if/when I get into the film business. It's utterly perfect; you can adapt the whole first season without Evolution-ing the whole thing, it can be done with minimal effects, and as previously mentioned, no whitewashing allegations.

This is so true, It would be great! Very Happy I would also like to be in the film business Cool

You'll have to put up with executive meddling though, like that guy who wanted robot spiders in every movie regardless of how out of place they would've been.
