I personally don't know of anyone who thinks anime is porn...
And on a side note, Smokin' Aces looks like a nifty movie, I've been wanting to see it since I saw the first commercial on TV. |

To be perfectly honest, I thought that way before my roommate got me into anime in college. I know I'm going to get flamed for this... whatever. Thinking anime is just a bunch of porn is very closed-minded, I'll admit, but you can't blame people much for following human nature and accepting what's portrayed by the media and society. You see, when you know something exists but don't have first-hand knowledge of it, you form ideas about it from the impressions you get. Sadly, the things that grab the most attention/spread from person-to-person the fastest/get covered in the media are the things that are the most shocking/most perverted/quirkiest. So, when I heard jokes about tenticle porn, or saw hentai on the shelves in rental stores, or even heard my anime-loving friends talk about Ninja Scroll, those parts are what stuck in my head. I knew to a degree that it wasn't all porn, but human nature dictates that those impressions stick with you until, say, you see Ninja Scroll for yourself and realize it's an awesome action flick with beautiful animation, that happens to have rape and gratuitous boobage. Yes, several "acquaintances" of mine share that opinion about anime being nothing but born. I'll accept the notion that anime could arguably be considered "soft core porn" at times (depends on the series), but most of it surely isn't on the level that hentai is, that's for sure.

What, you think they're going to go to a movie that's rated R for "strong bloody violence, pervasive language, some nudity and drug use" will see some hentai in it and think "well, we can't have any of that"? Seriously, most of the target audience for this movie has probably been exposed to enough anime to make up their own minds already; it might (slightly) reinforce already-existing stereotypes, but I doubt it'll cause anyone to form a new opinion out of nowhere. This isn't a movie on the Hallmark Channel; it's aimed squarely at the 18-25-year-old market, and the 18-to-25-year-old market has been exposed to anime for a good percentage of their lives. |

Thanks for the unneeded political/religious stab =D I seriously don't think this will effect very many people's opinions, it's probably just going to be in the background of a scene or something. Also on this note, the romantic-comedy film Fever Pitch made mention of hentai. |

BTW I happen to be a Christian, and I admit I believe that Hentai is in fact wrong in my OWN POV, you are entitled to yours, however I am not going to preach to you of the 'evils' that it is or such BS. And I alkso agree that that comment was not required however it will be true. There some hypocritical groups that will go after this and attck it just because they can without any real knowledge as to what it (anime / or hentai) is. And to add to the list of movies that mention Hentai (japanese porn) "Unbreakble" with bruce wills is the one where the comic shop clerk yells at Sam l Jackson he 'better not be__________ to the Japanese comics!' |

Don't forget we had that scene from Cool Devices on the OC as well. All I can say is nice that they're trying to get more anime into movies, but we can't go too far in the wrong direction. If we get too much hentai in movies or TV, people WILL get the wrong impression. We could use a little more mainstream anime series exposed to the public too, you know.

It was Unbreakable with Bruce Willis, one of M. Night Shamsomething's earlier good films, not Clerks. Still, I'm probably going to see this film anyway. |

Maybe this will be one of those things only people who actually care will notice, aside from the fact that all the other crap happening in the foreground may make less informed viewers forget the hentai crap. On a side note, how come you never hear about the clean animes any more. what happened to card captors, dragonball, Zoids, and those other completely clean, non perverted works of art I used to enjoy? No one says anything about those... |

Guys, it's probably only going to be like, a few seconds of footage the background, and you guys are acting like the sky is falling or the American intifada is going to invade your house. It's hentai, it's 99.99% percent of the anime industry, it's in a movie for 2 seconds, haha, oh wow.
