Ha ha, yeah. It's actually kind of a sad story - DC paid Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel so poorly for Superman that Shuster had to draw "spicy" illustrations for adult short story publications to make ends meet. You know, before the whole Seduction of the Innocent trial in the mid-50s shut the porn publisher down. The book is Secret Identity by Craig Yoe; it was sad, but interesting. Senpai Duckie, that's very interesting! I've always maintained that romance is as much of a fantasy genre as anything involving elves and unicorns, and the fantasies of "force" and "nontraditional roles" have driven elements of Western romance novels for decades, too, which makes for an interesting potential cross-cultural comparison for the genre, especially post-WWII and with the global popularity of Harlequin romances. |
