You know what, I'm rather surprised Yui lost though I bet people voted for Nadeko just out of spite against Yui.

Nodoka beat out Mihoko? What is wrong with Saki fans?
And sad to see Hisa lose to Maria by just a few votes, though I do like Maria.

Nadeko>Yui
The entire point of this is so you have backup when saying that.
Mio's probaly through, she's up agingst Alica (nanoha movie) and Kobato. Azunyan has Poplar Taneshima (woking!) and "steath" Momo, she might get wipped by Momo like Ui was, might be close.
Ritsu has Senjougahara that should also be close.
Tis still early, there'll be pleanty more tactical voting later on as well.

Saki apears to be doing worse than last year as well, *sigh*

Wow, I can't believe K-On! isn't sweeping the competition. I remember, correct me if I'm wrong, last year all the main characters from K-On! made the most desired anime wife list. Beating out allot of old favorites like the Eva girls and the gang from Haruhi. And as I recall the K-On! girls did very well in the tournament last year.
Also I'm surprised there wasn't a single character from the Haruhi movie. Has Mikuru really lost her spark in the eyes of the Japanese otaku?

Mikuru and Haruhi both lost out in round one. Yuki is in the other groups, so she's still in it, although dunno if they've already done the voting for that set yet.

Man, Yuki is going against Kanade from Angel Beats. That one is going to be harsh with Lisa from the Sacred Blacksmith being caught in the crossfire.

She's going against Kanade? That's almost unfair! I honestly wouldn't know who to pick since both are great choices. I'd probably go with Kanade though, since Yuki is more likely to make a return appearance in the tourney.

It's today as well,
top 10 qualifiers were (almost all in groups 12 and 15)
663 Shana @ Shakugan No Shana
646 Hinagiku Katsura @ Hayate The Combat Butler
588 Kanade Tachibana @ Angel Beats!
586 Yuuki Kataoka @ Saki
572 Yui Hirasawa @ K-On!
564 Mio Akiyama @ K-On!
555 Tsumugi Kotobuki @ K-On!
540 Kuroko Shirai @ A Certain Scientific Railgun
488 Yuki Nagato @ The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya
480 Fate Testarossa @ Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha
so she's not totaly f'ed, but it would need a big tactical vote. Like the one that got rid of Hinagiku.
Angel beats! will be in next year but without all characters, any OVA eps it gets will be eligable, like why Kyou and Ryou from Clannad are in (but only those two).

Nanoha as the sole exception thus far, Yui lost this year because she was the runner-up last year. Records from previous Saimoe tournaments have shown that those who make if far up the ladder the previous year tend to do poorly the following year. Notice how Shana has not come close to winning since 2006.

Of which 3 are already eliminated: Hinagiku (Round 1), Yui (Round 2), Kuroko (Round 2).
As for today's match, the Haruhi faction is losing out due to the Disappearance movie not available to the masses yet. Yuki hasn't done well since the quarter-final performance in 2006. If anything, I'd be shocked if she beat out Kanade today, moreso than what happened to Hinagiku against Mafuyu in Round 1.

You forget that there is the foreign vote count which could easily sway the competition one way or another (see 2007 finals). Also popularity only becomes a small factor as you get further into the competition. K-ON! may be the most popular show on there but moe does not equate to "preciously cute" as article states. As far as I'm concerned, it's become a mixture of appeal and "favorites" in addition to cuteness.
If anything I see Ai Haibara pulling a dark horse out of nowhere after 7 years of saimoe and finally breaking out of Round 1, including beating Nori from Hidamari Sketch, similar to what Miyako did in 2008. Of course, I hope that doesn't happen as Fate is in the same Block Group.

Also Tsukasa (lucky Star) (quaters then runner up). Louise (ZnT) got to quaters twice.
Nothing like so bad for making the top 16 repetedly tho'.
E1
1st 652 Kanade Tachibana @ Angel Beats!
2nd 631 Yuki Nagato @ The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya
3rd 79 Lisa @ The Sacred Blacksmith
F2
1st 636 Mafuyu Shiina @ Seitokai No Ichizon
2nd 458 Saki Miyanaga @ Saki
3rd 126 Rima Mashiro @ Shugo Chara!
