Who here digs Maruo? I haven't seen much discussion about his works here, but he is one of my favorite manga artists and I really love everything he has ever done. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Well I just read two things by him (Panorama Island and Midori), but I found both great, especially Panorama Island. Still it's hard to find people who actually like that kind of manga.

You can probably find more fans of Maruo here.

Maruo's been discussed a few times on the "Underground/Art/Alternative Manga" thread so there are at least a few of us who are fans.

The Strange Tale Of Panorama Island (due out in November) is probably the forthcoming release I'm most looking forward to at the moment.

EDIT: Oops - Peroxid beat me to it.

I can't really add more to the discussion but... I love Maruo's artwork. It's mindblowing. I'm also really excited about the upcoming release of Panorama Island. I've got a Japanese edition and it's looks lush.

As for being a fan of everything he's ever done. welll, I used to have Ultra-Gash Inferno (I lent it to a friend and he never returned it) and I definitely wouldn't say I loved it. The art was of Maruo's usual standard but I couldn't really get into the content.

For most casual manga readers, Maruo is too much. For alot of ardent readers, most appreciate his artwork, but the content of his works are hit or miss. Some find it Daunting and Nonsensical, while others thing its brilliant and well written. In either case, from his early works to his more recent stuff, I just think he's a very versitile artist and writer and he's been able to touch upon stuff that hadnt been done yet. I respect anyone who can do that and set the standard in new fields.

I don't even think it's so much the content of Maruo's books as it is that his work is so hard to find and rare in the U.S. And that's coming from somebody who has an awareness of him. I can't imagine a casual manga fan just stumbling upon his work, he's only had what, two, three books released in the U.S. ? And they're all out of print now.
