So, is this a strong title for Section 23 to rebuild itself around? Or will Clannad fail to earn back money?

I don't want to jinx Sentai by predicting strong sales, so I'll just say I hope the title does very well for them and leave it at that. Big props to Sentai for going ahead with a dub.

I'm trying to figure out whether I should buy this when I already have the original releases. I'm really rooting for Section23 to do well and I adore Clannad, so I might just double-dip for this set.

Fine DVDs? What, as compared to the bootleg DVDs sold by retailers? Sorry, but this just made me laugh.
Note: don't open the plastic of the DVD until ready to consume. Let product air for two hours before serving.
I sure would like to know how the upgrade program went.
Personally, I feel this news is just a tad hurtful. Here some of us are, buying the product sans dub, and get an offer to upgrade for $20 (plus shipping) while this one comes out, which could have saved us some coin.
*SLAP*
Thanks for that, Section23. Always a pleasure doing business with you. Rest assured I have certainly learned my lesson* regarding future "sub only" title releases by waiting.
*Yeah, like hell I have.

"Breathe." You have to let your DVDs "breathe." Be sure to take time to savor the fine polymer bouquet.

"SRP: $49.98"
I thought the MSRP was $70. If it is supposed to be $50, I would gladly grab it from DeepDiscount for $25 despite owning the sub-only releases.

Be happy that it actually got a dub. Seriously, I think what they are doing makes perfect sense, and hell, you're even lucky that they are doing the upgrade program.
Personally, I hated it, but I didn't like Air either. I have high expectations for Clannad to sell well, especially if the kids who said "Oh I won't buy unless it has a dub" finally throw in their money.

True. For a second there, I thought my $20 went to the VAs but now realize it was for the stack pack case. I feel better now.

Being a person whose favours lie with subtitles, I find myself content to view this oft-discussed development from afar. Many a person wishes to spend no more than is necessary for them to receive the product they desire, and in this very case each wish can granted by selecting the appropriate tier of release. There are two degrees of demand; there are two products. All should be well to sate the wants of both parties.
I must, of course, approach this topic with a degree of caution, for a release pattern such as this stands to take a excessive financial toll on those wanting more than myself. That is, of course, unless such consumers exercise more patience than should reasonably be due of them. Recognising this, I must hesitate before being so laudatory, lest I appear to advocate our universal gain coming at disproportionate cost.
