Money. WB makes money selling shows to other stations. They don't make money selling stuff to themselves. Of course they could make money on advertising, but they could do that with just about any show. It's a case of renting a house or living in it yourself.
They've not only done anime, they're just about the biggest TV animation company in the US. If any US company should or would get into anime, WB is about the best choice. This is like Disney & Ghibli. One almost wonders why they didn't produce this themselves. |

A Supernatural anime is in the works? Awesome!!
I only caught a few episodes from the series and it looks pretty good. Would Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki be interested in reprising their roles in anime form? Have they been informed about this? It would be pretty cool to see. Since Supernatural is owned by Warner Bros. I think it would be pretty obvious that they will do whatever it takes to bring the anime series over to North America for the rest of the original fans in North America to see what the fuss is about and will it get them interested in anime after seeing an anime version of the critically acclaimed series? Who knows. Plus, about that comment about Warner Bros as a possible candidate for buying Funimation, we'll see if that goes through and it would be very interesting to see. If it does happen, that means that a live action Fullmetal Alchemist film series is more likely to happen! Think about it, the Harry Potter franchise will come to a finish next year and they are probably thinking about finding another popular fantasy franchise to be a worthy successor and I can't think of anything better than Fullmetal Alchemist. Like Harry Potter, the main storyline for FMA is too huge to fit in a typical trilogy and it would probably need at least six films to cover the whole story and since HP's main story is covered throughout all EIGHT films, I think FMA will be the next fantasy franchise that will come close to that number. Besides, as long as FMA is away from those hacks at Fox, I will breathe a sigh of relief. By the way, what is up with the WB's logo tied into Viz Media DVD releases recently? Can anyone tell me why this happened? Appreciate it. Back on topic, I can't wait to see what Madhouse will do with the series. |

I almost cried tears of joy reading this. Supernatural is one of my favorite shows of all time. And seeing it being transformed into an anime just really made my day. More than it probably should have. haha
I agree with the other poster above mentioning the premise and story aren't too far from what an anime could be. AND it's being done by MADHOUSE?! Jeez, this probably couldn't get any better. I feel like this is going to do and probably succeed in what the "Twilight" manga tried to do with introducing more people into the medium. I find it interesting that they're doing the first two seasons. It's probably to see how it will do. I feel like they might do another season (of the anime) because for those who have watched it know the end of the second season (live action) begins an interesting storyline for the 3rd season. |

I'm pretty sure America is the world's largest exporter of TV shows. Lost airs on satellite TV. And according to the Supernatural wiki, there are a lot of Supernatural doujinshi. What a surprise. Another thing -- with something this big, being produced by a company as big as Time Warner, is there any reason not to go to one of the best for-hire studios? |

Well, wow, this is great news that's made my day. Besides anime, I also indulge in some decent U.S scripted tv shows (trust me when I say they aren't all rubbish), with Supernatural being a high favourite. Very nice selection for anime treatment, with a superb story (anyone who likes just good stories should check it out, even the most seasoned anime fan) and also very nice to see someone at Warner Bros has their head screwed on.
I own season one and two on dvd, with the others in the pipe. I think this will appeal to the kind of crowd that like shows like Baccano, Gunsmith Cats or Hellsing. Can't wait to see what art talent will take the reigns, and hopefully, it will still be set in the U.S, while maintaining its awesome action and sense of humour. But this is like I said a while ago. More productions like this, are good for all parties involved, and a nice payday for the anime industry, valuable money that can be later spent on better anime, and hopefully diversifying the audience a bot. With the market in such a state, it can only help both sets of fans too. Just shows, if the right product is selected, and the execution well enough, we all win. Thanks WB, for not letting Disney Marvel take all the anime cake with Ironman and Wolverine series. Jeez, well if they are going to go down this U.S IP to anime route, someone order that Fringe anime for me, please. That's another awesome, well written show (take five from 24/7 anime if you can and watch it, people). |

Actually 2 years ago there was a lot of rumor from Gameinformers and Kotaku that said that GTA 5 may take place in Japan. But the bad news is Rockstar is skipping E3 this year. So we don't know where GTA 5 take place? I would love for GTA 5 to be in places beside the USA.
There is a difference between Yakuza and the GTA series: -In GTA, you can carjack car and drive them. You can't do this in Yakuza. -GTA has wanted system, Yakuza doesn't have anything like this. -Yakuza play like Shemune/RPG game, where GTA plays like third-person shooter/driving game. -you can shoot civilian in GTA, you're not allow to do this in Yakuza. -GTA let you use variety of guns like AK, M-16, and Rocket Launcher. Yakuza have hand-to-hand weapon, no assault rifle, rocket launcher. -Yakuza is more hand to hand combat, where GTA you can use any weapon from fist to heavy weaponary. |

@Shay
You know the big irony of that Supernatural dojinshi, is that in season four or five, there's an episode that pokes fun at conventions and con fans, when Sam and Dean wind up at a Supernatural conventon (hella funny). The idea of Supernatural slash fiction raises its there too, a very brave thing for any show to tackle, without pissing off fans. |

Just a comment on this quote. By overseas, are they only referring to a popular drama series from America, or are they really saying from all over the world? I know that it's probably not on the radar of most anime fans, let alone the general American public, but an anime based off of a popular Korean series, "Winter Sonata", was made (then again, it might not have been a Japanese animation studio that headed the project... I'll have to do some research). It ended up being really popular in Japan. Twenty-three members of the original cast reprised their roles for the anime (the most popular two being Bae Yong Joon reprising his role as Joon-sang and Choi Ji Woo reprising her role as Yu-jin). Given the anime was produced in Korean, I wonder if Madhouse has any interest in using the American cast or if they're just going to do a Japanese cast. This might actually be enough to make me interested in watching the original series now. I've heard from many people that it's good, and I've considered watching it, but just never did due to time and other interests. This might be the push that gets the ball rolling, however. Does Japan dub the original Supernatural TV series into Japanese when they release it over there? And if so, who's in the cast? Maybe they'd be the voices in the anime...

Its nice to see it will be an actual series though I'm a bit sad that they are retreading old ground from seasons 1 & 2. Still the new stuff should be fun.

Isn't it enough that we have to take this in live action, now anime?
Still as I already gave up watching anime series, it doesn't bother me much. I even think it's good so that maybe in this way anime will get more popular in the western world. Still I hope this is just a phase, and after this crisis in the anime industry, they'll return to create original anime. |

Have you ever heard the official Japanese dub of Supernatural? It may just be me, but I found it kind of SHOCKING how much Japanese Dean sounds like American Dean. He has that same sort of "gutteral in the throat" soft growl thing going on, he enunciates like him, and of course, he gets his personality down perfectly. If I hadn't heard for myself how bad Jensen's Japanese was on "Changing Channels," I really would've believed it was him dubbing himself in Japanese! If you're curious, I think most of the later seasons' box sets include the JP vocal track. Also, here's a clip featuring Dean and Castiel I found on youtube. When Dean growls, "Itsu kara Uriel wa omae no bossu ni nattan da?" I really hear resonances of the famous "Jensen growl." Sam doesn't sound quite like Jared (he actually sounds even bishier, lol~), but I really like it. It still conveys the character of Sam very well, imo. So if they don't end up having English as the original track, I'm sure the JP version will still be awesome (plus, who wouldn't want more/new Supernatural material? ). But I'm positive that for the American release, at least, they'll have Jared and Jensen do their own voices (after all, Jensen already has voiceacting experience in the new animated Batman movie coming out next month). |
