I was wondering how much longer it would be before this showed up considering how long ago it was announced.

If it's only five episodes, I hope they didn't cut anything significant..

there's no way they can cram this entire arc into 5 episodes. should be interesting to see how they go about handing this story.

They're either 30 or 35 minute episodes, so it's 6 or 7 TV episodes worth of running time. Still tight, but maybe just a bit less.

Well, it could also turn out to be a ~45 min OVA series aka a (bit more than) a double episode each OVA (because it's just 1 x OP/ED, a bit more time for the actual episode, instead of 2x OP/ED for 2 eps).
Plus, I don't think they'd sell a whole BD/DVD for "just" such a short OVA each (again, it's the messed up/ridiculously high priced Japanese anime market we are speaking of...).
At least, that's what I'm really hoping for, cause I waited a long time for new animated material of BL and the more, the better.
Just my 2 cents.

Long or short it will be all Black Lagoon and that's what's going to make it all badass! I just want to now....dubbed and licensed now! Please?

Very excited for this. As I said in another thread, it's going to be weird to watch a Black Lagoon eppie without the English cast I am used to and adore, but I think I'll manage.

You'd think wrong to think they wouldn't, and it isn't even the most expensive per minute OVA out there. It's listed as either 35 or 30 min. per episode. (Amazon.co.jp and CDJapan listings conflict on running length.)

Comon, don't let us down FUNI...
You've made us proud before in the past whilst extending outside your own in-house studio before. And Ocean Group WANTS to do this!

The Japanese cast is pretty damn good too (though the Engrish in the Japan arc was pretty miserable; how did they handle that in the dub?).
Still -- a TV edit? Given how graphic this was when it aired on TV for the first two seasons, how much are the OVAs going to ramp it up that it will need editing to get on TV now?

They didn't really do anything with it. The actors played the characters the same as the rest of the show, which is fine since they probably would have been criticized for their Japanese sounding bad. They did a very nice job on the scenes where Rock has to translate for Balalaika. They basically did the reverse of the Japanese version where Rock's Japanese was emphasized over top of Balalaika's Engrish. For the English version, Balalaika was emphasized over Rock's Japanese (done by the English VA), which sounded pretty decent.

Be it good or not, the fact remains that the Japanese dub quakes in the presence of the English dub to the English Speaking audience.
If you haven't see the dub and are a English speaking individual, I highly recommend you watch the English Dub of Black Lagoon. Be your perseverance sub only or dub only, it's well worth it and very much enjoyable.

Don't like....even the Japanese prefer the English dub of this show?
Don't quote me on a lingering rumor.

It's going to be especially weird hearing a Japanese voice for Dutch. I don't care how talented a seiyuu is, sounding like a big, black guy has to be tough.
