Dakaran from Funimation forums I wrote when talking about anime channels:
My whole calculation is that marketing strategies are a (HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE) part of succeeding. World of Warcraft destroyed competition because the marketing strategy was insanely STRONG, strongest campaign I've seen in recent years. But still I haven't said your channel is gonna fail from the start, I'm supporting it remember, but I'm saying carefully plan and market it so it gets the best ratings, the most people it can and puts it on the strong spotlight asap, highest chances to stay on top overall. Spread the word like wild fire and there's no tomorrow once you're ready by using all channels available that are *good channels*. (Press, net, TV, Radio, across the board university, schools, shopping centers, gyms and social networks, houses and commercial companies...every freakin' where you got the chance to step upon leaving no stones unturned)If i could be the one instigating the BIG BOOM I would but some big shots needs to freakin wake up.
Anime has become a tamed animal but where's its charming wild side? Wake it up and get the basics of what anime is, why it appeals to fans and push forward!
Why the hell do you think series like Berserk reached out university students who became fans of anime... wild and free, bloody and thrilling. You need something powerful but also something soft as part of a Ying Yang marketing. Anime can be anything, what you want it to be, just check out for your style and series.
