One of my rabbits liked to play fetch. He'd throw a piece of wood or a small ball and then I had to go get it and give it back so he could throw it again.
Two other rabbits didn't really like humans that much, so they played this game together. See, this is why rabbits are better than cats and dogs. While your cat is liking its butt and your dog is chasing its own tail, my rabbits are inventing ball games |

I think you're mistaken that only "ultra-conservatives" are against all pornography. There are plenty of liberal feminists who consider pornography (we're talking live action here) to be objectifying and exploitative of its actors. They might not advocate total censorship, but they're definitely against it. That's one of the reasons I'd rather have people reading drawn pornographic, as much as it may still demean and objectify its subject matter... The real problem with any case involving violent or pornographic fictional material is that you can't read the minds of the people viewing it or reading it. Are they using it to fight unhealthy urges? As escapism? As horror that scares the crap out of them? There's a child rape scene early in Berserk, for example, but it's integral to the story and intended to be horrifying. Yet you know that there's somebody out there getting off on it - but what can you do to stop that? Constant government observation and brains scans aren't attractive alternatives. It's the unpleasant reality of an imperfect world. |

Oh you don't have to remind me that so called liberals are just as bad to free speech. You don't even have to look at extremist feminists. Just look at Hillary Clinton. (har har) Kidding aside, her and Liberman jumped in bed happily with Jack Thompson making a big deal over Grand Theft Auto in the name of "Will someone think of the children!?".
As for your Berserk example, exactly. How do we know some creep isn't jerking off to the newest Hanna Montana ep on the Disney Channel? What about the Coppertone girl or the Morton's Salt girl. We gonna ban images of children from all media? No. Of course the answer is to have cameras installed in all rooms and have random people monitor what everyone masturbates to. It's the only way to be safe, right? |

True enough, however what about collectors that do not collect clearly extreme and gross stuff (AKA Handley level). I realize you are mostly talking about imports here. But I think there are some other implications that should be addressed.
Now, we will never really know the absolute truth behind why FUNi decided to start editing Bund (maybe it will come out one day though). But the question has to be asked, if the Handley case never happened, would FUNi have decided to self censor its own products? In the interest of full disclosure, I have never seen Dance in the Vampire Bund. I've read a few chapters of the manga and that's it. From what I have gathered, the controversy is over a cartoon child like ancient vampire that is put into some sexual situations. I also know FUNi has released some pretty risqué stuff in the past. Now of course FUNi can do whatever it wants with it's products assuming they get permission from the proper people. But that's not the point. The fact is, if it turns out that the cause of FUNi backtracking on its original uncut policy is the fact that the Handley case was recently resolved with prison time, then that has potential to ruin it for what would otherwise be considered completely normal anime and manga collectors. No? It just seems that if we are going to start getting watered down legal versions of anime again, then collectors on both sides of the "sick line" will be hurt. I would also like to add it is difficult to blame FUNi too much for doing this. The last thing they need is to have the biggest name in anime dragged through a messy lawsuit involving loli "porn" from sicko Japanese sex cartoons©. I am not saying it is right, but it is certainly understandable. I guess we will never know because we will never know if FUNi would have done this if the Handley case never even happened. To me though, if it was, then any anime/manga collector has reason for concern. Not necessarily for going to jail, but just getting products that they can trust as being original. |

Some more fun facts about rabbits (at least my bunny) mine loves chocolate (he prefers dark chocolate to milk) they love crackers, can make noises (mine grunts like a pig when he wants something to eat or they make this unearthly scream when extremley scared).

But I ENJOY pessimism. Although, I must admit you make a good point.
I believe KlockWorx is the distribution company (rather than the actual animation studio). Their name is attached to several other properties such as some Kyoto Animation stuff and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. These new Evangelion movies aren't technically animated by GAINAX. It's all being done under Hideaki Anno's new Studio Khara ("χαρα" means something like "joy" in Greek) founded for the sole purpose of reanimating Evangelion. Although I'd image Studio Khara is made up almost entirely of GAINAX staff members so it's essentially the same thing. |

If that could be edited, it would probably be a great idea to do so. Even though I loathe Gene Simmons and think plagiarism is terrible, I feel kind of bad for Nick Simmons. Getting ripped on by a bazillion people on the internet is pretty punishing. By the way, butthurt lolicons upset about Kodomo no Jikan not making it over to the US really must take heed to this particular column since AnswerMan is praising Range Murata. Edit: Oh wait, that was Zac. |

Heh. Only in the USA do people feel obliged to debate kiddie porn as a serious freedom-of-speech issue.
I'm surprised Brian felt the need to be defensive about liking Rebuild 1.0. There's plenty of people who like it a lot. I think it has potential to be better than the TV series. I feel sorry for Nick Simmons. There were original frames in the pages I've seen, so he wasn't just tracing manga. I think he has some talent, but is still in the imitative stage of his development (all artists begin with imitation). The problem is that a project that should never have left his bedroom got published as an original work. Hopefully he will develop his style and publish some more mature, original stuff. |
