Okay so on Saturday night (GMT +10) I was watching the latest episode of Durarara, and I was holding my laptop in my left hand while I went out onto my driveway to smoke. As I was coming back up the stairs after enjoying a nice cigarette I was so transfixed by Durarara that I put my foot down wrong and basically rolled my ankle such that my right foot was facing < this way and my leg was still straight down. It hurt but I didn't fall and managed to hang on to my laptop haha. So anyways I went to sleep not too worried; I mean I couldn't walk on it or really move it, but I thought that a little rest and a little ice would fix it.

Yesterday morning I woke to find my foot a nice shade of purple and my foot and ankle so swollen I couldn't even make out my ankle, a nice football of jello basically from toe to leg. I went to the hospital and not only had i broken a bone in my foot, but basically ripped every ligament around my ankle to shreds. So now I have a moon boot for 6 weeks to be followed by surgery once the severe swelling has abated and basically am confined to my room (where I am watching more anime, the irony).

So I wondered if anyone else has experienced an injury whilst viewing anime? I know it seems unlikely that in the act of planting your keister on a couch and pressing the on button on your dvd player you can cause yourself serious injury, but... well, here I am. Part of me wants to believe that I'm not the only person stupid enough to break a limb watching anime.

The way I read the story, your injury was smoking-related. You'd better watch out, that stuff can kill you.

Hehe, an astute observation. Beware kids! Smoking kills. Especially smoking while watching fansubs. Avoid at all costs.

One time I went to sit on my couch to watch FLCL and I sat on a thumbtack. It hurt. Does that count?

I did cut myself once, twice, or trice, while having a thin crust mozzarella pizza. But that was on purpose.
Nothing really bad happened, yet. I also smoke while watching, but that I do through the window. It does take my attention away, just like a shiny dragon ball, and I sometimes let the ash fall inside(rarely). Since anime does take a fair amount of attention, I do have a few measures, one of them is to use a bottle with some water/juice/whateverliquidthereis, instead of a simple ashtray, so my cigarette's light would go out instantly. You never know, I don't really want to burn my bedroom, yet.
I once drank two glasses of outdated* orange juice(while watching anime). Concentrated juice tastes the same whether it's out of date or not, that or my senses are as dull as my hunting knife. Got sick for about a week, and that was when I tried to watch that thing with a bunch of, *cough* girlish "boys" named after countries, speaking about pasta every 10 seconds, while I had an upset stomach. Thanks a lot, but if every Italian were like that I'd be taking assassination classes by now.

*Opened it, left out of the fridge for 24 hours(was meant to go out of date in 5-6 months back then).

I have thus far avoided injury thanks to Anime ... unless you count eyestrain after staying up till 5am to finish a good series. But man that sounds harsh I hope it all heals well.

I may have been watching a fansub when I cut my thumb on my laptop (Macs are sharp dangit!). But other than that, nope it's the legal streams that crash my computer, maybe by DVD buying cancels the karma out?

Ahh well I was marathoning the FMA (the first) anime last summer and then paused it briefly to go take a shower but I wasn't really paying attention because I was concentrating on what was going to happen next with the series, etc...and then promptly stepped on a razor that had fallen in the bottom of the tub. This then caused me to have to wear one shoe/sock/etc for like a month because the bleeding was really bad and it was really really tender and slow to heal. On the plus side I couldn't do much *but* watch more anime haha. I still have a scar tissue on my big toe, I like to think of it as a battle wound, somehow.

No physical injuries (except poor posture).

Closest I've come is resting the DVD remote on top of a stack of DVD cases, which proved to be less than completely stable. So I saw the stack shift and start sliding at the top - and the remote slid off and straight into a mug full of water, arse first (i.e. battery end down).

I pulled it out immediately, opened it, took the batteries out and cleaned in the hole, but the water had obviously got inside the remote, so I had to break it open with a knife and damp down the circuit board with a towel.

At first the remote still didn't work, but after a bit it came back to life, and now it works fine, except that it's held together with gaffer tape.

True story!

Never had bad karma from just watching a fansub before...

In fact, I had negative vibes when I opted not to watch a fansub when I had the chance... Wild Arms caught my interest, was gonna check out the fansubs, but said "Nah, I'll just get the DVD thinpak later on."

....And that was the dumbest $40 I've spent ever. >:< All because I didn't feel like watching the fansub, or "try it before you buy it." Then I discovered the resell value was under $10.

So yeah. Ironic opposite negative karma.

So they moral of your story is that this wouldn't have happened if you'd been watching it on Crunchyroll? Or something?
Can't recall getting anything worse than a numb limb while watching anime in bed.

One Saturday night during the month of May, I was out enjoying a tasty Johnny Walker Black at a little bar located a few blocks away from my apartment. It had been an enjoyable evening and I was starting to feel the effects of the alcohol, which had impaired my ability to tell time. Suddenly, one of the girls in the group I was with said. “I can’t believe it is already 1:30 in the morning.” It then dawned on me; I only had thirty minutes before Code Geass started on Adult Swim. I hastily paid my tab and said my farewells, while at the same time trying not to divulge I was leaving my friends to watch anime at two in the morning.

I quickly jogged down the street, half in the bag, trying my best not to get hit by a car. I actually managed to make pretty good time considering my inebriated state. When I arrived at my apartment, I only had about five minutes to spare. I rapidly flew up the stairs when I abruptly tripped and crashed face first into the hard concrete step. Blood-spattered and traumatized, I entered my apartment with my brain spinning. I plopped myself down on the couch, turned on Adult Swim and passed out.

Throbbing and hung over, I awoke early on the next morning from my cat licking the dried blood on my arm. I was extremely angry because I passed about ten minutes into Code Geass and I was suffering for nothing. I brewed a pot of coffee, turned off whatever cartoon was playing on Cartoon Network, popped Lucky Star volume one into my DVD player and laid back. Nothing is better for a hangover then two cups of Starbucks breakfast blend coffee and a little moe.

One time, when I was watching Naruto fansubs about 200 years ago, my foot fell asleep for an hour. As punishment for my sins.

Aaaargh. I am always paranoid about something like that happening. Also, whenever I climb up on something to change a lightbulb or whatever, I keep telling myself "Remember not to die."
