Whoa! Didn't expect to see this brought back.
Are they going to use Range Murata's original designs? I hope so. It was very sad to see such work go to waste, but here's a second chance. |

Holy!! That's amazing, I remember being hyped for this way back... especially because of Range Murata's designs! I hope they still use his designs as well! Didn't expect this to be revived at all

Wait, what? Did I read that right? I thought it said that Mardock Scramble has been injected with new life, but that seems too good to be true. I must be dreaming or something. *pinches self* OH! So I did read that right after all -- hallelujah!
Never thought I'd see this day. Hopefully they bring back Range Murata, and I also hope that this doesn't end up being "Shangri-la Redux." God, that show sucked. |

YES!! (tentatively...)
I was very much anticipating Mardock Scramble's debut, which was to be a big deal for GONZO and abroad, but it was such a shame that it fell through. It was to be in total, though experimental, 3D, but they lacked the technology, though hopefully they (King Records) can still make that goal happen (the technical ability should be there now). I doubt that GONZO's still involved, but it would be great if they were in some compacity (even without their CGI unit, which they sold off, IIRC). I also hope that Range Murata will still be designing for it, however likely that is, either. It'll probably bear nothing of a resemblance to what the previous production had laid out, but I hope at least the adaptation is pulled off successfully after all that has happened. |

This is surprising news. Mardock Scramble was supposed to be a quadruple+ budget TV series production to commemorate GONZOs 15th anniversary (much like what Last Exile was for their 10th). After the cancellation, we learned that it would have been an OVA production.
And now, we get a film! Thats really good news, and I sincerely hope that Murata will be involved (I just love this guys' work). I also don't think that GONZO can produce sth like that atm (the studio is now just a ghost of its former self, and moving towards total liquidation). Happy times ahead (hopefully)...

I have never read the novels, but the story does sound intriguing. It is also known as The Girl in the Shell in some translated versions.
(Taken from the plot sypnosis on the official website and other sources): A girl named Rune (or Lune?) Barlott with a dark and abusive past is picked up on the streets by her benefactor, a casino boss named Shell, to become a teen harlot. However, she unwittingly discovers a secret that Shell does not want known, and he has her killed by burning her to death. The dying Rune is found and taken by a mysterious doctor and his assistant Ufucock, who rebuild her by reconstituting her skin using ultra-hard but flexible fibers, returning her back to life. Under Mardock Scramble 09 law, which states that an individual can be revived using illegal technology under this law Using her new abilities, Rune begins her quest to find out why Shell wanted her killed and uncover a bigger conspiracy at work. Ufucock, who is also an upgraded human weapon like Rune who feels his frustration of being used only as a tool, begins to touch Rune's heart. |

Hopefully, the studio is one that can faithfully reproduce Murata's art in film form. Please no Gonzo.

Well... both Gonzo's 5th and 10th anniversary titles (Blue Submarine No.6 and Last Exile, respectively) had Murata doing the conceptual designs, and Gonzo animated his works pretty well -- back then. Whether sponsors are willing to give Gonzo another chance today, however, is a different story. |

Interestingly enough, Murata's last doujin at this past Comickit was his art for Shangri-la. I won't be able to read it for a while, but it'll show more-or-less of how much he focused on it. He's been really busy these past couple years. Last Exile was done very well; in style, story, acting - a highlight in the anime world, imo, but I guess expecting Shangri-la to match it on that level might have been asking for a bit much. |
