Awesome. It's been a long wait, but I believe it will be worth it. I can't wait to hear the dub in its entirety*. Very Happy Classic giant robot anime for the win!

*(I was involved in production of the English dub of Raijin Oh, so I've only heard small portions of it)

While, as a robot anime fan, I applaud these guys going the distance for this show, I can only feel that this is going to be an absolute bomb. And here are my reasons.

Marks against it:

1. Giant Robots. Giant robots, for the most part in America have sold very, VERY poorly on their own merit, and usually have to either have heaps of cheese to make it sell, or violence to get our attention.

2. Obscure title. Now, I know mecha and giant robot fandom is maybe one of the smallest fandoms out there, but I doubt many people are salivating over Raijin-Oh, a title that is almost 20 years old and doesn't have the name draw a Gundam or Macross series can muster.

3. Singles. Sorry guys, and while my finger as of right now is hovering over the BUY NOW button, a singles release? The buyers out there are pretty happy with these half season sets and releasing a single release seems....counterintuitive. And I also face this dilemma....If I buy disc 1, what kind of guarantee do I get that Vol 2 will come out promptly, if it all?

I'm not a negative person by a long shot, and while seeing old school robot anime get some love makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, I think I may hold off on picking this up until the second volume comes out.

A subbed and dubbed release? Didn't think this show would ever get licensed in R1.

I hope these guys know what their doing Wink . This is a very long, niche show. I'd like to see another company out there releaseing anime (old, new whatever!), but this show, in singles, with a dub, will be hard to profit from. But hey I wish them the best of luck. Perhaps they are a bunch of millionaires and don't care about taking a hit on their first show or something? Hey whatever. They're the ones with the company not me I guess.

First thing these guys need to do now is try and get this on Rightstuf and other online stores. That will help sales out a bit. I doubt they could ever get this into Best Buy, FRY's or FYE, but at least if it's at a bunch of online stores they can make a few more sales. But the very least they could do is pop this bad boy onto amazon. I mean that's a mainstream site, where people actually go to, and where they could put it up no hassle, no problem, or anything...It's better then just selling it from their site.

Not really interested in the title, but I would love to hear the dub.

Anime Midstream is dead before it even walks into the door. 24 dollars? They really want me to pay that much for a series 1) I've never heard of 2) Might not like 3) Has only five episodes.

Sorry guys, you're probably not gonna make it to license another show.

Wow. I'm shocked they actually managed to get it to this point. When the license was announced last year, I was amazingly skeptical about the entire affair. As someone who actually liked the show way back when, I'm very, very curious to see how the DVD turned out and the sub/dub quality. I'm just not sure I want to drop $25 on it. How about a promo video, huh?

...Where's the rest of GaoGaiGar dubbed, dammit? Anime cry;

Oh, well...at least now my dream of a brand-new Maple Town dub doesn't seem quite so far-fetched. A 15-year-old giant robot kids' series? Dubbed? I ought to buy the DVDs just to give such a screwed-up idea my support. :3

Now that I think about it, maybe if this does decent MY dreams of getting Macross: Do You Remember Love won't be so ridiculous. Maybe, just maybe it might get here.

Who knows, this company can become the next Section23. ADV always had titles no one thought would make it so maybe, just maybe the new decade brings in something new.

didn't media blasters do the dub and claim they weren't going to finish it due to "bad dvd sales". 25 bucks is a bit much for a single DVD though I rather enjoy classic giant mecha animes I'm not rushing for this one mainly cause of the price for a single 5 episode DVD. atleast it wasn't as bad as that one anime DVD release with only 2 episodes for what was it around 45 dollars

The rest of the freaking planet enjoys Super Robot shows, why the US and the UK are so backward thinking, I'll never understand it. and I will support these guys, as they're giving me something I want unlike the rest of the R1 anime industry that wants to shove the moe/loli pablum down my throat.

And as Coop used to say... We Love Giant Robots!!!!

the most people in the US and I'm guessing the UK idk I live in the US see of giant mecha is either parodies and really poorly done mecha anime, so most people see mecha as parody fodder or just flat out bad

I'm glad to see someone in the anime industry taking a chance here. This looks like a cool show and I'll be buying the DVD as soon as I get paid next month. This is awesome news!

The US got the edited crap from Force Five, Voltron, Star Birds, Macron 1 and Tranzor Z. while Europe (minus the UK), The Middle East, Latin America ans SE Asia got Super Robot Shows in their full glory like Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, Grendizer, Getter Robo among others... Italy is Super Robot crazy, in France Goldorak (Grendizer) got 100% ratings in the 70's, Heck Spain is Getting Shin Mazinger Z in 2010 and had a Mazinger Z statue decades before Japan got into the trend.

people are forgetting the hot blooded heroics and enbracing the brain deadening stuff coming out of Japan these days, the only decent show of this season IMHO is Astro Fighter Sunred, at least until Cobra pops up.

I think it's a mix of two things... 1. That we weren't ever "properly" introduced to it... The rest of the world got Mazinger Z and Getter Robo and Combattler and stuff... We got Voltron and the rest got put through a shredder and re-assembled into something horrible and completely unrecognizable. And now kids these days, thanks to companies like Viz and such only like ninja kids and would never sit still for something like this without a reasonably big media push from somebody.

And 2.... It seems more and more that the American anime/manga industry is pushed exclusively now by women. Everything we see getting published and selling was designed to either sell to women or really creepy guys. And neither women with their fantasies and romances nor guys whose only interest in the world is pubescent girls and their daily lives, would EVER sit still for this either... And that makes me sad... Sad

But you know what? Thankfully, I NEVER gripe about the cost (the only good thing about my horrible job is that I can afford these things without batting an eyelash) of things so I plan to support this release!

And even though it may not amount to much, if ANY of you have at least a LITTLE Super Robot Spirit coursing through your veins, I'd urge you to support this release too! We need to show licensors that even though Moe has taken over everything, we Super Robot fans STILL EXIST and we're not going down without a FIGHT! Anime hyper

I know... I gave up and bought the 2nd box set subbed... Sad A real tragedy, that. They had done the dub SO well! I am now FIRMLY convinced that Dan Green was put on this Earth for the sole purpose of voicing Chief Taiga! Anime hyper Of course, if they ever DID finish the dub, they might have to change some voices from letting so much time pass by... And that might lessen the quality of the thing.... Like how when they continued Slayers and had to change Zelgadis... I normally like the actor (whose name I can't remember right now) that replaced the original Zelgadis but his performance in Slayers just fell flat compared to the previous guy... :\

I'm buying it just because I feel bad for the underdog. I don't particularly like giant robots, but maybe it will grow on me, or I can give it to a little boy. It has a dub and maybe they will liscense another old kids show next, from the World Masterpiece Theater. How cool would that be?
