Well, TRSI has some GOOD deals on right now and this is one I'm looking at. I've always been intrigued by this show, knowing it's Rumiko's dark series, ever since I saw info on the OVAs (which I believe, have never come out on DVD unless they were part of the anthology collection). Anyways, the complete TV set is at an awesome price, but for me this will be a blind purchase if I decide to get it. I won't have any time to sample episode either before the week is over, so I'll need some help with comments and views of the TV series.

Let me know the pros/cons (without spoilers, of course) of what you thought of the series, if it's worth getting the set, etc. I'm a fan of when a creator makes darker series, like CLAMP's works on Tokyo Babylon and X. Think this could be something for me? The whole idea with mermaid flesh just sounds neat :p

Thanks for all the help!

Mermaid Forest is a fantastic anime series. It has drama, action and adventure. The storyline in it is epic meaning that it continues throughout the series and doesn't deviate or resort to single episode tangents like Inu Yasha occasionally did. In other words the plot has lots of substance. The animation and character designs are great and they seem to put more artwork production quality into this show than other Rumiko Takahashi titles.

I'd say if there is a great price on the entire collection now, then now's the time to grab it. I already have the single DVDs so I won't purchase it.

It was a blind purchase for me... but I absolutely loved it. The storyline was intense and builds up nicely. Mermaids are normally cute topics, but here the subject is twisted quite marvelously. Definitely ended up in my top-10 anime lists.

I'd say more, but it's been too long since I've seen it to give a great, detailed post. Just that I think it has to be one of the more underrated series out there. Definitely worth more accolades than it recieves.

I bought all four manga.

On a side note, the mermaid's flesh thing is an actual story from Japan and involved a girl whose mother gave her some and she lived for six hundred years (and may still be alive today). However the part where they turn into horrible monsters was added for the story.

Just watched this last week, I'd give it a go...

My wife & I were looking for an anime in a similar horror/suspense vein to Vampire Princess Miyu & Pet Shop of Horrors & this show was recommended to us. I got the singles rather cheaply & would say you get bang for your buck.

It wraps itself up ok, but we enjoyed it enough that we wish it was a longer series.
