the blood thing is making me a little confused. But hey we get to see Shinobu sucking his blood like a true vampire?

Wonder if there going to have the snake opening in time? I mean it seems like they got the last opening out just at the last second again..

I agree that it deserves to stay in top 10. But the series is pretty stylish and unique in execution: going to be weird for some, and they will downrate it (see those weak and below ratings? That's pure hate). So rate it masterpiece and no less!

I am almost certain that SHAFT is going to animate prequel and sequels (look at SZS). We'll learn all about that when prequel airs.

----------

I have recently found another blog that tries to explain/provide insight on Bakemonogatari. Ghostlightning's The Inauthenticity of Senjougahararagi: Bakemonogatari 08 really "spells out" just how insensitive Koyomi is and how "one sided" their relationship is at the moment. Worth reading if you seek more.

It confuses me, too, moreover it was said that Araragi actually still needs drinking blood ... on a month bases Anime hyper.

BUT, since I had a gorgeous male vampire for a while as avatar, I'll just happily assume that in exchange for the blood sucked, Araragi might have received some power in return. If you have watched Karin, you'd understand the model (and chuckle). (Shinobu looks like a battle type, judging from her katana and the first opening, hence, Araragi got supernatural strength for fighting "oddities").

I don't believe Nishio Ishin would reside to the boringly popular, one-sided blood drainage, given the way the plot and the characters in Bakemonogatari unfold.

Hentai_JP, I have no choice but reply you later. Damn lot work to do right now.

If I understood it right, he didn't get any powers from Shinobu. That would have defeated the purpose of the battle, as it would be Araragi + Shinobu's power beating the demon, not Araragi himself. That still leaves open the possibility of the demon beating Araragi. Instead, I think allowing a lot of blood to be taken from him (approaching his limit, I assume), maxes out his regenerative abilities, and the side effects of the vampirey-ness are amplified as well. Just a guess, though.

Well to explain how Shinobu drinking from Araragi powers both of them up... well it's simple. It's a master/servant bond, the stronger Shinobu gets the more powerful Araragi becomes.

I'm sure everyone has figured it out by now... but Shinobu is the vampire lady from episode 1's OP. That's her in her former glory, if she drinks all of Araragi's blood she returns to that state and Araragi becomes a vampire again.

Those sub groups got it wrong when they said Araragi drinks blood, only one group got it right, I don't blame them.. they probably thought it was a mistake.

Also if Araragi doesn't give Shinobu any blood she will die and he will return to being fully human.

Personally I don't see it as a masterpeice, so the top 10 thing doesn't seem right to me. It's certainly got style, and it's entertaining, but things like the spoiler[highlighter green desk explosions that look like CG] don't sit well with me, nor the masses of stationary spoiler[that get repeated in odd places] (unless it becomes reasonable later on). It's an aspect of the style they chose but they tread a fine line with regard to the fourth wall when they treat the show with such irony, and certainly risk losing dramatic effect.

This is not to say I don't think this show is excellent.

Maybe its just me, but while i do like this show a lot i also feel that excluding the mystery of the week aspect of it, the bedrock/cornerstone of this anime is Senjougahara.

Well, she is by far the most unique and interesting character in the show, so I'm not surprised. Actually, Oshino is awesome as well, but Senjougahara takes the cake in my eyes. Still, my favourite is actually Araragi, probably because I can empathise with him the most.

Senjougahara could pull this show by herself. However if it was just her that really grabbed people Bakemonogatari wouldn't be so loved. Senjogahara Fascination is no joke, her character is great, especially when she deals with Araragi and tries to make their relationship work, but lets not forget about others. While Senjougahara and Arararagi are main characters and they deliver, supporting characters are nearly as good, with everyone having their personality quirks. Then we have rather original story, and amaizing directing. What I am trying to say is that 'the whole is greater than the sum of its parts'; meaning Bakemonogatari is this good not just because of the unique combination of these 'parts': writing, characters, visuals and overall directing, [Edit] but because they work together so well, giving us something truly new/unique.[/Edit]

Who in the world added "slice of life" to Bake genres? It's as much slice of life as NGE is a comedy.

And one more thing: Bakemonogatari now has it's very first and very own "worst ever" vote... cheers? I wonder if that person is a FMA fan who wants to see it back in top ten; the type that judges before seeing it: "One day, a classmate named Hitagi Senjōgahara, who infamously never talks to anyone, falls down the stairs into Koyomi’s arms."; very angry fanservice hater (episode two:"OMG MY EYEZ!!!1"); or just rebellious ass!@#$ who doesn't approve of anything popular.

Well I asume that Bakemonogatari is not for everyone, to some people it could be quite confusing, the suden cahnges can throw people off. But I don't know if it is realy worth worst ever. Personaly I am holding off ranking untill I see it all through, just so I can give a fair one.

Is this explained in a prequel story? It sounds very "Araragi" to try to find a way for Shinobu to keep living, so it's very appropriate to what they have shown in the series.

A really good and entertaining anime indeed, generating the same amount of excitement in the ANN anime community as showcased by epics like Toradora!, Code Geass etc.

Regarding the people here and elsewhere calling Araragi-kun a hypocrite for lying to Senjogahara. I really don't understand why he is called that, AFAICT, he never promised Senjogahara to always tell her truth, though I kinda understand that it's logical for one to assume so given that he makes Senjogahara promise that.

Also, given that Araragi was prepared to accept his death when he decided to dual with the `Rainy Devil', does allowing Shinobu to suck his blood signify that he was actually helping out Shinobu regain or maintain her powers as his last act of kindness? Oh, and I wonder what Senjogahara would have done if she would have seen Araragi with Shinobu sitting on her lap and doing "something" on his neck. Razz

IMO, you are taking this way too seriously and way too far. Smile

There really doesn't need to be any logical reason to like or dislike an anime. Anime, like any other art form, comes from the heart and touches the heart. Don't be an extremist and try to force your feeling of awesomeness on others, it just ends up giving all Bake fans a bad name. Calling someone a "rebellious ass!@#$" just for that is like being one. Oh and BTW, it wasn't me. Wink

Episode 9

Hmm, ...

One thing I absolutely liked about this episode was Araragi-Kanbaru antics. Funny, true, and well done. Additionally, it looks like Meme powers-up Araragi, upgrading his tasks with stronger survivors of "oddity" infections Smile
I wish to see Kanbaru spoiler[ "healed" in her twenties], kuhkuhkuh.

The other - Tsubasa and Araragi.
Back to Hentai_JP: every character has their visual themes. Since we have an accent on Tsubasa's braids, I believe you have noticed the cat ornament. Mayoi had her swirled snail-like hairband. (On a side note, I dled yesterday Bagi - those of you who are already familiar with this OVA, wouldn't be surprised how much the Rainy Devil resembles Bagi Smile). Other than that, all of them have notable close-ups, shadow reflections, bakemono-sation imagery, clothing, PANTSU, etc. [Eventually, I'll group and systemise the images neatly and upload them ... sometimes soon).

Tsubasa delievers more surprises - super knowledgable and educated as she appears, she spoiler[keeps her wish for exploration (or straying tendencies) a secret].
Then, she is strangely mature about love relationships, and I honestly enjoyed how she explained to Araragi Senjougahara's disposition. Hopefully, he would really take it to his heart Rolling Eyes

All the rest was disappointing.

First, Nadeko spoiler[looks like Senjougahara in middle school].

Second, the way her story was presented, was the least interesting, with no suspense, easily predictable, and needlessly servicable. DIDN'T like it. Had not whatsoever wish to see her blushing and barely hiding her tiny tits, as if the notion spoiler[of the curse] wasn't conceivable by exposing her legs.
There should be a good explanation for this in the next episodes, really. I don't appreciate pedophille delights Evil or Very Mad Given the quality of the series so far, this is just ... bleh.

Well with episode 9 just like in the last two arks it started out with Araragi hanging out with the character of the previous ark (Kanbaru). I wondered why this would be hapening, but it looked like it was spoiler[to test Araragi whether he would be tempted by Kanbaru]

I am interested in what the deal is with Nadeko, my current theory is spoiler[she might be unhappy with her body or something and is doing magic to change herself.] This episode offered a bit more banter with Kanbaru, especialy loved the image of the banana in his bedroom when she started monkeying around. Tsubasa was interesting, she is hiding something and it seems that though she spoiler[said she was going home] that was probably a lie, and that spoiler[feinting of a kiss], way to build suspense.

I do have to say the fanservice was a bit overboard by any anime. Still it was to highlight the scales around her body.

Banana background was funny spoiler[Also Kanbaru went straight for the porn when she got in to Aratagi's room ]

Maybe she is into the same stuff? Actualy she mentioned that spoiler[she knew his fetishes from before. She gave Nadeko some bloomers, and if I remember properly Araragi had a strong reaction when he found out about Kanbaru's secret of her bloomers, would that be an inclination to what his fetish is.]
