So they're pulling a Dead Space too, huh?

Ab anthology based off Donte's Inferno sounds awesome. And the fact that it's from Production I.G makes it even better. I say more power to them.

Reaction to reading the headline on ANN: "A Production I.G. anime based on a piece of classic literature? Yeessssss!! "
Reaction to reading the actual article on ANN: "A Production I.G. anime based on a video game that's based on a piece of classic literature? Hmm... :/" Still unless something real last minute comes up (unlikely) this is pretty much the coolest news to come out of this years Anime Expo. Now if they ever do a Brothers Karamazov anime I think I could die a happy man. |

Definitely catches my attention. With the director of Ergo Proxy involved on this project, I can see the potential... just hope I feel a little more satisfied with this ending.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed when I noticed that. I was really hoping that it would be based off the original, not a game. But I imagine the same idea is carried through both of them (to some extent). Plus I have faith in Production I.G, I expect good things from them. |

It's nice that a video game company is funding Anime. Since Hollywood is pulling off Japanese style animations to promote their summer/winter blockbusters, it looks like even the game companies caught wind of it. This made me wonder: Is this going to be short-lived fad or are there going to be further development?

Can someone please explain what that means? Are we looking at six OVAs? Six super-short OVAs? If this is being funded by a video game company I hope the directors don't get their hands tied too tight so that we end up with a bunch of promotional crap. |

It almost sounds like no one here or the people that have posted so far has even heard or seen the stuff that has been released about the game Dante's Inferno.
But I would say it is definitely a step up from Dead Space on the promotional front and should be alot more interesting. As for story, don't expect them to keep with the original too tightly, which is sort of the same with the game as it is more of a "re-imagining," hopefully in a good way. |

Game story: Dante steals Death's scythe and uses his super powers to slaughter his way through nine levels packed with giant demon hordes to rescue Beatrice from Death.
I am not making this up. Could be OK as a stand-alone action/gore thing... seems to have a Berserk-style atmosphere (though not sure if story will enter into it). If you're expecting something resembling the epic poem, however, check the "Dante Shinkyoku" manga by Nagai Go instead. |

I haven't read Dante's Inferno in years, but yes, that sounds exactly like what I remember. Lasciate ogni speranza, voi ch'entrate. |
