Munto (TV) (well, there's that other name, but that one is so freakin' long! Anime hyper )

Well, here it is, Kyoto Animation's own original anime project! And not to mention this is the first time they're doing two projects simultaneously along with Clannad After Story. With the first episode premiered, there are a few things that needs to be noted. From the looks it (and probably for the next few episodes as well), anyone who has already seen the Munto OVAs released from Central Park Media, you're better off not watching this. Unfortunately the first episode reused pretty much most of the first half of the first OVA, and you can tell with how strikingly different the character designs between the episode and the actual OP and ED sequences.

So pretty much most of the criticism Carlo made in the OVA will be apparent in this episode especially with this "tug-of-war" between Yumemi's school life, which was pretty engaging in its own right, and the Heavenly World which was hard to get into or even care for. The only things different is pretty much the new voice talent in this series compared to the OVA, and the series is in widescreen (and I think there's a new soundtrack as well, right?).

With that in mind, some of you may have to wait for the next few episodes until KyoAni actually produces new original episodes. Neutral

Hmmm... this is kind of irritating. I actually kind of like the OVA in an old-school way having just watched it prior to this episode. Reports were conflicting on whether this was a sequel or re-telling. In this case, it's neither so far... it's a re-cycling Smile

The new character designs point to some new animation eventually, but considering the story issues of the OVA, it doesn't make sense to essentially rerun the original. It wasn't worth going back to see how much editing was done, but I would be pretty confused I think if I had not already seen the OVA. The longer format was a good opportunity to flesh out the original properly, or just take off from the ending with a new, better story. In any case, what happens when they transition to the new character designs and it jars the new viewers who've gotten used to the old ones? Very odd decisions here.
