Holy cow! One Piece has been around for a decade and isn't finished? Berserk is over 20 years old and not even close to being done? Shoot. I hope that all my favorite series end before I get old and die.

Same thing is happening with Naruto. It was published in 1997, and is still releasing new volumes to this day.

I'm pretty sure that at this point all the shounen series are trying to beat each other in length. 10 points to whoever beats DBZ first and 20 points for the series with the fanbase that gives up last Rolling Eyes

One Piece began in 1997. Naruto began in 1999.

In terms of anime, though, One Piece started in 1999, Naruto in 2002.

The DBZ anime only ran for 7 years. And One Piece already has about 100 episodes more than DBZ.

If you add in DB and DBGT, though, then One Piece needs about 100 more episodes and about a year and a half more to reach the size of the entire DB anime franchise. Very Happy

And the crazy thing is that, while DB went downhill toward the end, OP is getting better and better. °_°

QFT. Of course, that's also because Oda's loves to write the series and is not writing the series with Shonen Jump practically pointing a gun to his head. (well, he managed to hang in there during the Cell Saga, but you could tell by Buu that he didn't know what to do with the story anymore).

Also, Oda confirmed in the '09 Jump Festa that he wrote the entire screenplay for movie 10, so expect an awesome OP movie (might even top 4 and 6).

One Piece is catching up towards DBZ movie mark of 17 with this 10th anniversary flick.

One Piece flicks have always generally been entertaining so I look forward to watching this one. Perhaps it might be another retelling of a popular manga arc?

No, the trailer shows an entirely new story (and IIRC, spoiler[the Straw Hats are wearing Marine disguises!] But since Oda wrote it, it MIGHT become canon and be referenced in the manga. But don't hold your breath on that.

On the manga side of things, One Piece's length has already surprassed the entire Dragon Ball franchise. The Dragon Ball series (separated into "DB" and "DBZ" in Viz Media's releases) ran for 519 chapters plus one bonus chapter about Trunks' past. Currently, One Piece has 527 and shows no signs of stopping soon. And to me, and many others, that's a good thing. Oda's writing is great and he can keep going for as long as he wants.

Also keep in mind that the Straw Hats are at the half way mark of the grand line just now! Shocked

QFT. I always look forward to each progressing manga chapter and anime episode, because Oda Eiichiro certainly knows how to tell a story. If anything, I`d love to know how manga volumes we`ll have in the end, because so far my bookcase has now run out of room to hold the entire 50 someodd volumes on one shelf.

Maybe you should go to Japan to see how it ends up yourself.
