Mwahahahahahaha...*obsessed with Conan*
Not surprised tho...heard it's really good...hope to see it this summer!
Of course, I really don't think anyone DIDN'T see that one coming...after all, very few anime movies besides Miyazaki films can beat out Conan at the BO in recent years.
Go Meitantei Conan! ^^

I believe Japan has lots of movies coming out at once, around this time every year. Maybe it has something to to with the so-called 'Golden Week', which is a week long holiday for just about everybody (including cinema staff? Hmmm...)

Not every film has simultaneous worldwide release. Sometimes films take a lot longer to get to other countries for any number of reasons; translation difficulties, release dates, distribution problems... it isn't usually a glitch, typically there's some reason behind it that effects the Japanese marketing of the film.

What ever happened to Appleseed? Last I saw from the front page, it was like 7th, and now its gone. I figured it would at least appear on the charts; it look sweet judging from the trailers, and the soundtrack is ultimate. I guess people want their CG fix from Advent Children....

I'm guessing that it was opening week for 'Haunted Mansion', and that usually puts a hyped movie at the top regardless of how bad it is. I'm guessing it's popularity will be short lived ^^;;
I'm wondering what the Japanese are getting out of 'Passion of Christ'...
