I lately have seen the 1st ep. of the anime Girl's high (a.k.a. Jôshikôsei) - I also knew the eponymous manga -, but not of the ANN Website, as I don't live in USA nor in Canada, but in France... So, I had to watch it *elsewhere* instead (don't blame me, please, I had no alternative!)...
Did other members watch it and like it too? Personally, it's rather a good job. I must admit the abundance of "panties shots" is something exaggerated Embarassed, but I couldn't help laughing Laughing !

And a question to the ANN Website staff, if they were to watch it: couldn't the 1st ep. be watched by the non-American people too, please (unless it is a copyright or contract matter) ? I'd like to see if the American version worths being watched, and if it's as funny as the Japanese one...

[EDIT: Do not link to or talk about where to find unauthorized downloads or streaming videos.~Zalis]

I'm not technically ANN staff, so this is an unofficial answer. But to my knowledge, it is a copyright issue; ANN gets the right to stream Girl's High through the US company that released it on DVD. Since Media-Blasters' license only covers the USA/Canada, that's all ANN can stream to. See this column for more details (and an actual staff response).

What do you mean, "Is the American version worth watching?" There is no distinct "American version"; it's exactly the same show as the so-called "Japanese version." No English dub was ever made, so the only difference is that you'll get more accurate subtitles in the Media-Blasters release vs. the fansubs, which is what I'm assuming you saw elsewhere.

Thank you for answering me.
First, by "American version", I meant "American dubbed version" ;
Second, I also meant I wished to know if the dubbing was good, i.e. if the comedians were correctly playing their respective parts, or if the American dialogues were close enough to the original ones... ;
Last, so it looks like a contract + copyright matter. I can understand therefore...

^ There was never a dub release for Girls' High. Like Emma, it is sub-only available in the states, and like Emma, it's a crying shame. Evil or Very Mad

Yeah I thought it was very funny and I really wanted a dub. The only thing good about no dub is that the boxes are cheaper that way.

I liked the first two episodes, but hated how the series progressed from there. The writers shifted away from the outrageous, trashy fluff that made the beginning so fun (in favor of insipid character drama - the manga handles this aspect quite acceptably, but the anime is just awful).

I know MB likes picking up odd stuff, but they really should just avoid shovel shit like this. Most of these shows were hard enough to watch for free, let alone buying them. At least they don't bother dubbing it.

I would have bought Girl's High DVDs if they had been dubbed in English. Since they are not I spent my anime budget on other DVDs instead.

Oh? Are the American lines less "trashy" than the Japanese ones ?

It's a guilty pleasure type of thing. The whole series is $29.99 so it's not like they are taking it too seriously.

I believe Media Blasters (the US licensor of the show) has been hitting the same financial rough spots as some other companies lately, which is why they focus on sub-only releases (much like RightStuf with shows like Emma). It's unfortunate for the dub fans, but some shows may never get a proper dub.

Media Blasters' dub work isn't shoddy, though the only show I have of theirs is MKR, it's got a pleasant, appropriate dub to it.

What?
Even with the re-write, what? The question still doesn't make sense. Let me say it again: the version that's streaming on ANN, the version sold on the Media-Blasters Region 1 DVDs, and this mythical "Japanese version" you keep references, are all the same anime. The fansubbed version you might have seen on other sites is not "the Japanese version"; it's the exact same show, only with less accurate subtitles.

...why are you people doubting Zalis? The guy has a good grip on these things, geez. What's it gonna take, the people who run Media Blasters coming in and explaining that the only English version that exists is the subtitled one? And that if they did have a dub, ANN would air it simultaneously (as they did with Kite)? Some people...
