I find the current ANN site skin featuring two little twin girls kissing each other or something pretty disgusting. I hope ANN asks its advertisers to exercise better judgment in the future.

wow so you haven't seen higurashi right? Well um would you feel better if I told you that the show had no kissing twins but it did have killing twins
Calm down it's just promotional art. And considering the popularity of the show very good judgment was shown in using this skin. I really like it. It's from one of my favorite shows and I'm a straight female. |

It doesn't matter if he watched it or not. He is solely complaining about the image and apparently he is not alone.

Let me put it this way. "Fanservicing" the characters seems like a cheap trick to attract more consumers. Despite the actual images, the focus remains on the fanservice. I may not be a fan of Higurashi, but I know that the show is good enough to sell itself without resorting to this type of promotion. I'm not saying that it's disgusting like the first post. The problem with this ad isn't the show itself. It's that it imposes fanservice onto everybody. |

My favorite ANN Ad skin of all time. I have the Higurashi artbox with said pictures on it and I prominently display it on my DVD shelf.
However, this week I had to avoid ANN during the day since I don't think it's work safe

Under the my ANN tab, click "skins". Open the drop down menu and scroll to the bottom. "When They Cry" should be just above [ back to default ].

I'm a fairly liberal guy, I don't mind faintly (or even overtly) sexy skins, but at the same time I can understand why more socially conservative folks might get bent out of shape over something like this. I think it makes sense to be a little more understanding in this case. I'm not saying the whole site should be turned upside down but we could at least be a little more respectful of contrasting views when people voice respectful opposition. The rush to call this trolling was premature IMO. Also, I don't see how not seeing the show makes any difference with regard to voicing opposition to the skin.
That was a separate topic that applies to subscribers. We have the option to force the skin to never change, but sometimes it changes anyway. Even though I'm a liberal guy I don't like having questionable stuff show up on my screen at work or in mixed company. I don't hide my interest in anime but neither do I flaunt it. I think this is one of the best reasons to subscribe but sometimes it doesn't function properly and supposedly that will be addressed shortly. Meanwhile they're considering putting together special subscriber-only skins and that's when I posted my comment. I don't mind people linking to quotes of my posts but I figured I'd try to clear up what I was talking about there and give it a little context. |

Or, he could've easily made a more viable argument by saying "I find the new skin disgusting because... [I don't want co-workers or the squeamish, uninitiated passer by to freak out over the atypical reaction of Japanese animated under age girls dressed in revealing clothes and kissing each other]."
That's why rule #3 exists, so people know your intentions, and thus don't label you a troll from the "misleading" one-liner. The world is perfect and accommodates to every single individual, meaning we're all psychic and can tell the difference between someone who's actually concerned for their social status and just another anime fan who might be appalled at anything that resembles or hints at loli-hentai, regardless of what we know he knows because again, we are psychic. People can complain about the author's post all they want. It's his own fault for not being specific. |
