I love Sugar Sugar Rune, I'm glad it had a great ending. but the fan inside me wishes it could've gone on a little longer.
I even cried when I read the last volume (it's not very often that a comic moves me to tears, so you know that its special XP)

I've been looking into Solanin for a while, so thank you so much for your review. It's hard to find good manga with older characters (read: anything over 17), and even rarer to find one about a character post-college. I will definitely pick this up, thanks!

With Kannagi, I've been watching the series and reading the manga for a while now (well, episode 6 of Kannagi was just out but the manga has been out a bit longer). I just wish they would throw have more of a background with Tsugumi cause I always find her a bit boring, though I'm glad they put Zange in the series. Recently it's been hinted that Nagi had a boyfriend, boy did the 2ch otakus explode when that happened.

I care, since it ended.
Let me explain- I'm always afraid to start new manga series, becuase I usually have no idea how long it's gonna be. I don't wanna throw away my clothes so I can keep manga in my dresser becuase I indavertently started reading a bunch of 30+ volume epics and ran out of bookcase room, ya know?
Since now I know this is only 8 volumes long, there's nothing to keep me from seeing what all the hubbub is about!

Now that the Sugar Sugar Rune manga series publication is done, all we need is for someone to bring the anime version over here (Funimation/Geneon, anyone? ).

Oh, I'd been looking forward to the final Sugar Sugar Rune review (almost as much as I was looking forward to the actual volume, hee!) I'm sad it's done too, but happy it had such a satisfying ending. I know I'll enjoy rereading it many times to come. Thanks again Carlo, since it was one of your early reviews that encouraged me to try it!!

Wow! With that endorsement of Sugar Sugar Rune, I will definitely have to check it out!
I sure hope somebody licenses the Kannagi manga, as it looks like it is a series I would certainly buy. Maybe when the anime gets licensed?

I'm not sure what you mean by your spoiler. Volume 11 ended with it seeming like Clare and most of the main cast were all dead, but by Volume 12 it was revealed there were alive. And at no point in Volume 13 (the one reviewed) did it seem like Clare was dead. |
To put it bluntly, I like the side stories and not just concentrating on the main character. That's why I disagree with the review.

Oh, no, I understand that. The part that confused me was the part in your spoiler. Where you said the main character was thought to be dead. As far as I know, nothing like that happened in Volume 13.

It would be nice if the anime were to be licensed... I've seen a few episodes and I think its really cute and the effects for the spells and the transformation sequences to turn into witches is actually pretty to look at for a standard magical girl genre.

I think I confused myself with volumes.

You are awesome for reviewing Solanin.
I agree that the occasional introspection does get somewhat overwhelming at times, but everything else is just too strong for me to really care about that. It's just a damn good story with some of the strongest characterization of any manga available in English.
Really hope Solanin does well enough (especially in the current graphic novel climate) to bring over Inio Asano's other works (Nijigahara Holograph would be the greatest license EVER).

Come on now, its an excellent manga, but don't you think this kind of statement is a tad bit...over-enthusiastic? |
Maybe he meant among licensed ones only. |
Though Carlo did say comic. (Plus, such a comment also ignores some fantastic fantasy manga licensed and released in the past five years.)
I also find it surprising that neither of you have commented on Solanin!

No. The anime version is full of filler and fail. The only good thing about it is the opening song.

I agree. I tried to watch a bit of the anime, but it just seemed to take the great series and make it a generic magical girl anime.
It also spoiled me because it shows Vanilla dressed in black in the opening, thus foreshadowing her changing sides.
I wouldn't be upset to see it licensed, but I won't be wasting money on it.

While I love SSR to death, I have to agree with this.
