Hmmm. On current voting, looks like this group is going to be interesting - and very close. Assuming seven votes remain to be cast, and barring any large-scale vote changes, only six matches have been decided already.

He also has skills he uses without it as well. Just because he is evil does not mean he isn't smart. Also even smart people make mistakes especially when it's not their fault. Light can also plan ahead better than anyone. How frustrating, I thought I posted my votes here yesterday, but it seems like it didn't go through. The connection was pretty awful though, so I can't say I'm too surprised.
Group D-1 Light Yagami, Death Note Sakujun Sa, The Story of Saiunkoku I like the sound of Sakujun Sa quite a bit, but I'm still inclined towards Light. I don't think he's as brilliant as he seems on the surface, but I'll give him the edge here. Group D-2 Daedalus Yumeno, Ergo Proxy Satoshi Shirase, Battle Programmer Shirase I was quite surprised when I read the guide for these characters to discover that I submitted the entry for Shirase! Given that I've never even heard of the series, I seem to have done quite well, but not nearly well enough - Daedelus seems like a better choice. Group D-3 Radical Edward, Cowboy Bebop Taichi Hiraga-Keaton, Master Keaton I love Ed, and I think there's more going on underneath that hilarious exterior than she's given credit for; she's got keen skills as a tactician, as well as awesome hacking abilities, and just generally uses her intelligence in a very creative way. Plus Keaton doesn't seem to be suffering in vote terms, and pushing the guy's wine tasting abilities as a reason to vote for him really turns my head the other way. Group D-4 Roger Smith, Big O Katsuhiko Jinnai, El Hazard franchise I'm only vaguely familiar with both, but Jinnai seems more fun. Group D-5 Dr. Tenma, Astro Boy Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo! franchise Washu is a wonderful character. She's a very creative scientist, and I just love the fact that she seems to create and research compulsively. It's like she'll explode if she doesn't make something amazing or process a certain amount of information in any given day. Group D-6 Kanone Hilbert, Spiral Kururu, Sgt. Frog If a character from Sgt. Frog is deemed smart enough to get seconded, there has to be something there. Kururu it is. Group D-7 Joker, Read or Die Daisuke Aurora, Heat Guy J I'm not entirely convinced by either of these two, but Joker seems more interesting. Group D-8 Nami, One Piece Alexander Howell, Ceres, Celestial Legend Now, admittedly it has been some time since I had any interaction with the Ceres franchise, but I honestly don't remember this guy. Nami on the other hand is wonderfully crafty and smart. Group D-9 Yugo Beppo, Yugo The Negotiator Medicine Seller, Mononoke I recall Medicine Seller getting good support in nominations, and also reading some convincing arguments against Yugo. Group D-10 Michael Lee, Witch Hunter Robin Maximilien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon Robespierre, as a vote against Michael. I like his character, but I don't remember him really doing anything that really communicated his intelligence. Group D-11 Hildegrad von Mariendorf, Legend of the Galactic Heroes Balalaika, Black Lagoon Some convincing arguments have me voting for Balalaika, and also because it has reminded me of this wonderfully awful song Group D-12 Integra Wingate Hellsing, Hellsing Kugen Tenko, Wagaya no Oinarisama I don't really remember too many strikingly intelligent moments from Integra, so Kugen Tenko it is. Group D-13 Shimei Yuuki, Starship Operators Chikaru Minamoto, Strawberry Panic! Shimei Yuuki, nothing convincing has been posted for Chikaru, though she does sound interesting. Group D-14 Rental Guy, Nerima Daikon Brothers Shi Ryuuki, Story of Saiunkoku Don't know much about either of these guys, but Shi Ryuuki seems like a better choice. Group D-15 Kintaro Oe, Golden Boy Hakuoro, Utawarerumono I really don't remember Oe getting much support, even in nominations, so Haukoro gets my vote. Group D-16 Satoshi Himawari/Hikari, DNAngel Aramaki Daisuke, Ghost in the Shell franchise Gosh, this is difficult. Oh wait, no it isn't. Aramaki is one of my favourite characters in anime, let alone this tournament, and it'll take much tougher opposition than this for me to vote against him. |

I'm kind of less familiar with this particular bracket, or at least it feels that way. As such, and as I can't convince anyone one way or the other, I'll make my reasons brief. Group D-1 Light Yagami, Death Note vs. Sakujun Sa, The Story of Saiunkoku Voting For: Light Reason: No competition, really, and I've already stated reasons. Group D-2 Daedalus Yumeno, Ergo Proxy vs. Satoshi Shirase, Battle Programmer Shirase Voting For: Daedalus Reason: Guide and research Group D-3 Ed, Cowboy Bebop vs. Taichi Hiraga-Keaton, Master Keaton Voting For: Keaton Reason: Ed's smart because it helps the story, but she's also a little batty. Keaton demonstrates his breadth constantly. I mean, I get the feeling he knows a little about every topic of interest on the face of the earth. Group D-4 Roger Smith, Big O vs. Katsuhiko Jinnai, El Hazard franchise Voting For: Roger Smith Reason: Someone called him the Bruce Wayne of anime and I'm inclined to agree. He's smart, savvy, suave, and good with the Big O, and Jinnai just sounded expositionarily brilliant to me, didn't grab my interest. Group D-5 Dr. Tenma, Astro Boy vs. Washu Hakubi, Tenchi Muyo franchise Voting For: Washu Hakubi Reason: She's a strong competitor here, and a lot of fun besides. Group D-6 Kanone Hilbert, Spiral vs. Kururu, Sgt. Frog Voting For: Kanone Hilbert Reason: A character from a show about geniuses vs. a talking frog with the Velma thing going on for the group. Uh, Hilbert. Yeah. Group D-7 Joker, Read or Die vs. Daisuke Aurora, Heat Guy J Voting For: Joker Reason: Because he'll eat your liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti...and he's smart. Group D-8 Nami, One Piece vs. Alexander Howell, Ceres, Celestial Legend Voting For: Alexander Howell Reason: More a vote against Nami for reasons I stated in another bracket when I got her confused with Nico. 
Group D-9 Yugo Beppo, Yugo the Negotiator vs. Medicine Seller, Mononoke Voting For: Yugo Beppo Reason: He's kind of like Encyclopedia Brown, and the whole show is about him demonstrating his skillz, sooooo... Group D-10 Michael Lee, Witch Hunter Robin vs. Maximillien Robespierre, Le Chevalier d'Eon Voting For: Michael Lee Reason: I remember him as a crafty hacker-man with a sharp tongue and a nice smile, and d'Eon is full of wicked crafty people, buuuuut...Robespierre didn't really stick out. He's kind of one of those "Dewey" characters to me. Still, this is a harder choice. Group D-11 Hildegard von Mariendorf, Legend of the Galactic Heroes vs. Balalaika, Black Lagoon Voting For: Balalaika Reason: VERY strong competitor, this didn't require much thought. Group D-12 Integra Wingate Hellsing, Hellsing vs. Kugen Tenko, Wagaya no Oinarisama Voting For: Integra Hellsing Reason: This is a weak group, but the picture and info impressed me not for the show I've never heard of, and I don't think Integra's guide does her justice. She is one tough, clever, cool-headed woman. Very much so. Group D-13 Shimei Yuuki, Starship Operators vs. Chikaru Minamoto, Strawberry Panic! Voting For: Shimei Yuuki Reason: I don't see much going for the alternative is all, and no one's raised any great arguments. Group D-14 Rental Guy, Nerima Daikon Brothers vs. Shi Ryuuki, Story of Saiunkoku Voting For: Shi Ryuuki Reason: Mentor Man has nothing on Shi, really. Still kind of a weak grouping again. Group D-15 Kintaro Oe, Golden Boy vs. Hakuoro, Utawarerumono Voting For: Hakuoro Reason: This is also kind of a weak group, but it's hard to tell if Kintarou is brilliant or just plain KOOOOOKY, so I guess I'll give it to the great tactician. The biggest thing he has going for him is that he is spoiler[a super-powerful god], so that would explain his immense skillz he gets so fast. Group D-16 Satoshi Himawari/Hikari, DNAngel vs. Daisuke Aramaki, Ghost in the Shell franchise Voting For: Daisuke Aramaki Reason: Someone else said putting "smart" and "DNAngel" in the same sentence is pretty sad, and I agree. To be fair, Satoshi's no numbskull, but he IS quite outclassed. |
