Agggh, I'm torn on this one. I've really been curious about this show for a while, but I've been avoiding it because of what I've heard about the dub. (As a dub fan, I don't think companies should really be able to get away with low-quality dubs these days, although I'm sure the actors are trying their best.) This is one of the few shows I was really, really hoping Funimation would replace the voice cast on.

Considering that I watch english dubs a lot more than the average ANN regulars, All the bad stuff I've heard about this one make me feel rather doubtful about getting this. But then again everyone that I've come across tells me that the dub for Love Hina is awful, but after actually hearing it for myself I didn't think so. For now I'll just put this on my list with a few (hundred) question marks next to it.

By the second disc, the subpar dub was no longer an issue, I had become used to the way the characters sounded.
One point in the dub's favour, is that it is not the same set of familiar voices. I like most of the big name dub voices, but over and over again on each new series? Out of the newcomers on this dub, there are a few I would like to hear more of. A redub would have been jarring. I ran into that with Saber Marionette J Again, after the original Saber Marionette J. Again had arguably a better cast, but it just did not seem right to me. Karin was a fun series I was following via Netflix when it went away, it seems it had a good rental following that has all re-added the series from the start to catch the new disc. Disc 1 is coming up as a long wait. |

I wish they had redone the dub. I'm a dub fan, but this was pretty bad. It's easy to tell this was dubbed in Singapore. One of the few titles I watch in Japanese.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but FUNimation would have been required to rescue the license in order to be able to redub it, right? They only acquired the distribution rights, so technically they wouldn't have been able "fix" the dub anyway. Currently, only Geneon has the rights to do such a thing.
Technicalities aside, I don't like that this series was given a Singapore dub, but I fell in love with Karin via fansubs so watching it subtitled is no big deal for me. Such is the case with any bad dub. Whether or not I've seen any fansubs, I'll just watch a poorly dubbed series subtitled and be done with it. I've actually come to like watching anime subtitled just as much as dubbed nowadays, but I still prefer dubs mainly because of the fact that I'm lazy and don't like having to read "distracting text," and DVDs usually play the English track by default anyway. |

Well, what really distracts me is having to listen to anime characters talking English. But I'm not going to start a flame war, so...
What's less distracting is me having a possibility of actually filling the voids in my "Karin" collection box (currently with only two discs in it). So does anyone know if the Geneon-produced (but never/poorly distributed) Disc 3 will finally be available to resellers (and end-customers)? And does anyone know if distribution/production licensing is on its way for "Rozen Maiden" (with another nice-looking and close to empty collection box standing on my shelf right now)? This series was also released by Geneon just before folding (or ending distribution business). |

That is why they have a "Japanese audio with subtitles" option on 98% of DVD-released titles out there, you know. (And since you don't want to "start a flame war," I'll leave it at that.)
In my area volume 3 was generally available in stores in September of 2007, and was available at online stores through most of last fall. Supposedly it and the previous two volumes have been distributed this fall, but I haven't seen any sign of them in Best Buy (where I buy most of my anime) yet. EDIT: I just checked, and online retailer TRSI (www.rightstuf.com) claims to have them in stock and available. |

Yeah, volume 3 was one of the last discs Geneon released last year. Funi/Geneon have recently re-released all of the first 3 volumes with the new volume 4.

The Rozen Maiden Box Set (Vol. #1-3) was released on September 16. Vol. #1 of Rozen Maiden Traumend will be re-released on October 28, which is also the street date for Traumend Vol. #2. No announcement yet for Traumend Vol. #3, but I would guess either late November/early December for the street date for that particular DVD. The individual singles for the first RM series were not re-released. |

Thanks for all the good news! Now I really have something to look forward to! Last autumn/winter/spring I tried with both Amazon and eBay-connected resellers, and no-one I tried with actually could ship the product. But now I'm positively more optimistic! :-)
