not sure what part of that article you find offensive or worth getting upset over...?

I'm with this guy. The article is pretty well written and fairly accurate.

As far as Gurren... have you guys seen it?
You're not serious, are you? All three of you guys must be new to the fandom then.So to those who agree,I guess we gotta go warn the Sci-fi channel that they are showing porn to children under 18.Why don't you watch Gurren Lagann before you agree with a guy who groups it with, heh heh,Urosukidoji. Laughing You non-researching,lack of anime history beyond anything that is Naruto, fans, are agreeing with this old man who knows nothing of our culture, and groups Mecha (Robots) with Tentacle Hentai (Hard Porn).WTF.Fanservice is not the same as hard porn.If this guy wanted to report about anything, it should have been torrents and direct downloads. But they don't have even the slightest ******* clue about our Otaku culture! He could have at least used his skilled background to find out that Bible Black would have been a way better choice than anything made by GAINAX.Come on now!

But it's your opinion,so.....it's all good. Laughing

In the latest episode of the Anime World Order podcast, in an attempt to set the record straight we talked to Patrick Macias regarding this MSNBC article, how it came about, what got misrepresented, and even what it got right. The discussion, for those interested, starts roughly 30 minutes in.

The rest of this post is off-topic and I do apologize to the moderators for that, but I was mentioned by name and am thus obliged to respond in my defense.

I'd probably feel more sorry for Patrick getting taken out of context, if his AWO/Otaku U.S.A. mafia didn't also like to filter out fan comments which aren't self-serving to their respective blogs.

No Daniel Zelter, the reason I delete your comments is because you never actually contribute anything remotely on-topic, opting instead to spew forth a nonstop volley of inane off-topic chatter about Hollywood or what have you, as you handily ignore the greater points other people make for the sake of quoting them one sentence at a time. You never actually offer up any feedback to the AWO podcast since by your own admission, you don't listen to it.

You know how the ANN forums have the following rules?

Quote:

1) Discussion should be related to anime, anime news, Anime News Network, the forum topic, or in some way relevant to this website. Excessively off-topic ("OT") posts will be locked or deleted.

3) Discussions should carry some measure of intelligence to them. Consider if what you are writing is relevant or important to others. If it does not contribute to the discussion, do not post it. Please post detailed answers to questions; lists and one-liners do not contribute.

It just so happens that these common sense rules apply to pretty much every single venue of discussion on the entire Internet, and the AWO blog is no exception. I consider it a reasonable request that the comments thread for a given episode of my podcast consist of discussion that's somehow related to what was actually said in that episode. That means I delete all posts that just say "first post!" or "check out this website!" or what have you because they are low content posts written without having listened to the show. That is also why I delete YOUR posts. When we release a show where we talk about Nobody's Boy Remi, that is NOT your cue to post your thoughts on the Watchmen trailer. If our show is about Osamu Tezuka and Black Jack, that has nothing to do with your thoughts on Blade Runner: The Final Cut. If you want to ask Carl Horn about Dark Horse's manga licensing plans, don't do so when the topic in question is The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. I did not make any of these things up; you have done all of these and literally hundreds more.

Please, I'm begging you, start your own blog and post to your heart's content over there. It costs you absolutely nothing to do so and everything you say will always be on topic. If you want to talk to a specific person, then send them personal correspondence. I have asked you to do this multiple times over the course of several months, but since you adamantly refuse to comply with my requests time and again, I have no choice but to delete your posts entirely. Gripe all you want about how I'm "the mafia" and am trying to "suppress your freedom of speech," but the reality is that on my site, your actions make you a spammer and a troll. I can only assume that is not the case on these forums, as you have over 6500 posts accumulated to date.

Actually, I do, but you delete it, just because I post it, and because it doesn't always sound like I'm kissing up to you. And if you don't believe me, you used to have an average of 30-80 comments in your updates, but you've chosen to whittle them down to less than 20-30, most of them coming from known sycophants, and not any casual fans-since you like trashing any one who watches something made in the last 15 years. Nice try at covering your butt, though.

It seems like you're the one ignoring my points, since people seem to agree with me more than you, Daryl.

Well, when I do listen, you erase my comments anyway, so why bother?

In spite of it all, though, the ANN forums are still run by people who actually seem to like discussing more different topics than AWO.

That's bs. You guys diverge on different subjects all the effing time on your podcast, and you know it. What the hell did Noboru Ishiguro's favorite Hollywood movies have to do with his work, huh? And what about your man-crush on Rambo?! Don't change the rules whenever you feel like it, just because I'm the one getting more attention.

tyger: Sorry. Patrick should be allowed to selectively filter whatever he wants in his blog; but if MSNBC does it to his comments in their articles, then they're wrong, and he's a martyr. I see the light now. Rolling Eyes Oh, and who cares if he twists my comments to make me look like a sexual deviant, when his "reputation"-built on gore and tit movies- is at stake? Hey, everyone! You too can buy his magazines and books and then have him insult you, when you try to show some respect!

Just thank your lucky stars that Fixed News hasn't done an article on anime and fan culture. If that happened, we would all be threatened with persecution from the mainstream. Oh yeah, I could see it now--Bill-O the clown calling us anime and manga fans a bunch of degenerates.

No, the one Neo-con you'd have to worry about in relation to Asian affairs is this little spitfire:

Michelle Malkin makes Bill-O look like Micheal Moore.

Alright GATSU, you think you're unfairly censored and that you are a pillar of enlightenment and who whole world deserves to hear the wisdom you continuously vomit out. Unfortunately, it's often just about as good as that sounds. Regardless, this isn't your anti-Patrick and anti-AWO thread or soapbox to declare how the man is stepping your toes, so drop it or take it to PMs or official channels or whatever. Frankly though, based on your history here, nothing I learned here from this comes as much of a surprise. Either way, it's irrelevant to the article, so stay on topic, anything further OT will just be removed.

Keonyn: Well, the backlash against this article is due to how a "journalist" manufactured stories about certain individuals, and took their quotes out of context, in order to justify their narrow world-view of said individuals. So when those individuals do the same to others, and they complain when it's done to them, are they not in fact the pot calling the kettle black? Also, I find it dumb that they did an interview with a guy who wrote a book about sexual proclivities, and didn't expect some sort of sleazy tabloid version of their comments to be used in the final article.

It would seem that we need to get our voice heard. I emailed that s-o-b and told him to go read JapanAmerica, by Roland Kelts. I suggest if you all want to support the good ideas of the otaku culture, and the correct opinions, to go buy and read that book. It's a wonderful thing.
This man, who wrote this, did it only for his own personal gain. I feel ashamed that such a man can go on living.
Kira....take him out Cool

Yeah, this is an improvement. We've gone from being seen as sexual perverts to full-blown psychopaths. We're surely climbing up the ladder....

Ah, PMSNBC, you never fail us. What a joke.

There was some validity, okay, a lot of validity, to this man's references, but he clearly over-lumped anime in general into the perv/ecchi category instead of a small percentage. I just wish he had ONE sentence in his article making it clear that a miniscule minority of anime was marketed for the purpose of sexual arousement.

No moreso than American media, honestly...
