Really there are two kinds of child cosplayers; there are the little kids who are having fun, like it's Halloween II, where their parents aren't really dressed up very much and it's clear they're doing this for their children, who enjoy the camera attention. Then there's the two parents who are in full-on cosplay outfits and are dragging around some poor crying 7-year old who's been stuffed into a Naruto outfit. The former is fine, the latter kinda sucks. Actually it sucks a lot since the rest of us have to hear your kid screaming and crying and not only is it annoying, it's saddening and troublesome because it's not your kid's fault, it's yours.

I seen both the former and the latter. I would do the former if I had a child and whatever they like be it anime or sports I would encourage them like Mom did me. Heh, if it was up to mom I'd be a model right now, not an anime fan. She let me go with my interests and didn't force them on me.

I kinda disagree with your point on the cosplay wedding. I wouldn't want to do a cosplay wedding myself but not everyone who does is not that bad. Or so I hope. I'm optimistic.

Then again I think most nerds who were normal enough to get laid and keep a spouse know enough about basic human interaction to not scream at their children when they want to watch Spongebob instead of Haruhi Suzumiya. I could be wrong, though. Especially if you had a Zelda-themed wedding.

Unless they are both kinda socially inept. then the kid is DOOOMED! Razz

I would love to go to a Zelda themed wedding. I'm sure the cake would be beautifully decorated in tri-forces, and their guests would eat horse meat.

So... maybe not the last part. but still. i think i'd love to go to a cosplay wedding. It's your day celebrate it as you want. I wonder if the King of Hyrule is really "Zelda's" father and if not how did they talk a priest into cosplaying?

As for the kids part, I'm iffy on if I want kids someday but if I do I will let them watch whatever they want. My mom and I use to watch Lois and Clark, and she got me into Superman. But it wasn't forced, I could leave if I wished.

I enjoyed Rednal's response. We kind of see along the same lines.

As for all those with equations thats nice. But i'm not going to pay the same amount for...Gunslinger Girls S1 as I would S2. They aren't on the same level. When you have huge discrepancies between seasons or even episodes the price in my opinion lowers.
I think thats Thornhill's explain was trying to cover, but I didn't quite get it. I'm not sure what "pimps" are besides hoe caretakers.

Unless thats what he meant. Wink

As for the Yaoi question...I find myself like so many who hate when a underground trend gets popular. I love yaoi and it took up a big part of my life (...still kinda does) but I don't like girls (or boys) who expect to see two men making out and caressing each other tenderly.
Or get mad when said men don't make out.

Plus I hate the lack of cute boys yaoi-ing for pocky and glomps just because they know girls like it. Smile

Somebody else likes Kyoran Kazoku Nikki, woo!

The pimp-analogy pricing was amusing.

Oh, Kenneth Thornhill's answer to the episode value is a classic. I may have to copy and save that for the next time a "what should anime cost" debate comes up.

For the yaoi question, its popularity surprises me but does not particularly bother me as long as I don't have to watch it.

And concerning the wedding: how far do you extend the "nerd wedding" analogy? Do you include Renaissance-themed weddings, too? I've attended one of those, where the minister was dressed as a monk and the wedding party and several of the guests were all garbed appropriately, and it was quite lovely.

Sadly, this made me think of ADV Laughing

I found the Zelda wedding to be pretty funny. That wouldn't be my thing, but if that's what you want to do on your wedding, fine by me.

Seriously though; cosplaying, and they've got a love child? Hardcore otaku...

About older shows, I love Harlock and most Matsumoto stuff. But yeah, not on DVD here, and probably never will be. So I download the fansubs as my only option. But I'm not going to buy the R2's, because they're be ridiculously priced and will cost about same price again to ship it. And then once they're here they'll sit on shelf doing nothing important, not even gaining value since they're just DVDs. This is why I can't even see buying R2 DVDs as a reasonable way to own a show, I'm still going to have to download the fansubs regardless. I did buy Captain (Herlock) Harlock: Endless Odyssey sight unseen though, because Rightstuf was running a sale.

Also, the dub mentioned was for the American splice ala Robotech where they took Harlock and Queen Millennia and put them together.

...I have one lone point to make for the Yaoi question:

Yuri fans, from what I have seen, are NOT as rabid as some yaoi fans I've seen on forums around the net.

You see more people raving about some BS pairing between two male characters in a show, whereas you see very few suggested couples for yuri. In fact, the one I think I see the most mentioned is the implied relationship Yoruichi and Soifon from Bleach.

As for annoyance, no, they don't bother me. But when they impose some crap like, "ZOMG, IT'S TOTALLY CANON THAT THESE TWO ARE FOR EACH OTHER" or something, I just laugh.

Yuri fans don't go out of their way to suggest their favorite pairings like I have seen Yaoi fans have. I don't mean to offend but again, I'm refering to the fans who take the idea of "Yeah, it could happen in an alternate world" and think it means, "They're totally gay for each other."

No, it doesn't; Ninja Nonsese is a half-length series (and also awesome, but I won't get into that).

A wedding is (hopefully) something that happens to you only once, so blowing it on a gimmick seems like a terribly stupid idea to me. I can't imagine being enough of a geek that I could look back at a video game-themed wedding with pride in a few decades time.

Do Japanese geeks ever have bizare theme weddings? Or don't they ever get married? Social isolation is certainly the sterotype.

Once? What bizarro planet are you from? You can keep getting married and divorced for as long as you want, so long as you have the money and the patience. Sure, maybe a first marriage only happens once, but considering the divorce rate, I doubt it really matters what the wedding was like when they're yelling over who gets the silverware.

As far as otaku, dude, they don't even speak to women unless those women are also otaku. And even then, they'd rather not spend their paychecks paying for dinner and a movie when that new Moetan fig is coming out, the one where you can totally see her panties, oh and the limited 5th time re-release edition of X BS harem comedy #59854. Otaku don't get married or even date. They're a lost cause and Japan resents their existence.

Yaoi is just another escapist anime subset; by itself it's harmless. The problem is a lot of people, especially teens, don't value other people's personal space, so they act as if it's OK to superimpose their fantasies into everyday life (retailers aren't helping, stupid yaoi paddles). It's a fan culture thing that should be purged, just like people walking around convention grounds with body pillows and such. In my opinion, it's OK to like the stuff (I myself own a few body pillow covers myself), but mistaking real people for anime characters or acting like totally self-centered asses isn't.

I don't know, perhaps I want to see some dignity again?

That is one of the best wedding pictures I have ever seen in my life Laughing And I'd like to thank Zac for answering my not so hot question Wink That one was kind of dwindling on my mind, but I figured that would be the answer to what happened with all that went on in the recording studios.

Aw, c'mon, let's flatter ourselves. Kidding! Wink

In the meantime, how about those regular Japanese couples who do Christian theme weddings in a fake church with a fake blond blue-eyed Caucasian J.E.T. for an ordained priest, complete with gorgeous wedding gown walking down the aisle in a flurry of flowers and throwing the bouquet and everything? Laughing

Oh crap, the wedding looks nice! As much as I do not want to attend a cosplay wedding... I want to. Hell, Vegas has been doing that, why not in your backyard?

Generally, mostly yaoi fans are the loud ones. Yuri are the opposite or try to be "undergroud." Yuri fans do not really try to force parings, unless if it fits. Yaoi tries to make it fit. Overall who gives a flying f-. In the end, both are as annoying as any other fans. Anyhoo... as long they can tell between 2D and 3D then it's all good in the end. Cool

About the porn actors/actresses in hentai, all I have to say to that is...
THE MORE YOU KNOW!!
