Forgive my ignorance, but what does it mean that it's been "tabled"? That's it's not going to be? In that case, why not just say "canceled"?

In this case, it would be best not to say anything, especially since that blog post has been removed. Thanks for spreading further confusion without waiting for official sources.

As long as they mention the post was taken down, what's the harm in telling us? I for one appreciate up-to-the-minute news (even if it's not confirmed yet) rather than no news, thank you.

Varies significantly by dialect, which is why it's not an ideal form to use in international use.

ANN is a north american site, so it's using the usual meaning in north american english "to halt the enacting of some proposal". In this case, the plans for airing the TV series look to have been indefinitely postponed, maybe [or maybe not] cancelled.

I don't speak that dialect; my native dialect is australian english. In my dialect, to table something is basically to propose it; almost the complete opposite of the north american meaning. This is the usual meaning in "commonwealth english" forms [which excludes canadian englishes, amusingly enough]. We'd say "shelved" for the meaning here.

If Obama's campaign website suddenly disappears and his Senator page has removed everything about "presidency," I'd say the entire world would be reporting it. The disappearance of 801-chan's anime website and on publisher's website are nowhere as important, so only ANN carries it. Cool

(dormcat dodges tomato thrown by Obama's fans)

Hey if I don't use this extreme yet hypothetical example I don't think crilix would understand. Razz

Thanks for the explanation. Smile

English is my second language, Danish being my first. Here in Denmark, we are taught British English in school, but due to television and movies, most Danes wind up talking some kind of weird hybrid of British and American English.

I strive to speak British English, though. Smile

I can't say I am surprized at all though. This idea from the begining looked bad.

Really? I was looking forward to this show myself. It all seems very dramatic, disappearing like that!

Actually, that's how I would use "tabled" and "shelved" as well, so it looks like it does include Canadian English as well.

It's been changed now so it's all clear, but yes, I was a bit confused about the wording as well since tabled would usually mean that the anime had been proposed, while the rest of the news article made it clear that it was the other way around.

Hope this isn't a sign of there being a problem at KyoAni itself.

The plot for the series sounded a tad. . . odd, even for anime, but it is unfortunate to see any series suddenly being thrown into limbo. Hopefully whatever is going on is something simple that will get worked out and everyone can get what they want.

I was interested in watching this, but I have to admit it's pretty niche. I mean, it's not even really BL or anything anyway, right?

Shame. I was looking forward to KyoAni breaking out of its rut of Unlimited Sequels Works and doing something not related to a current franchise.
