What good anime mags can i subscribe to here in the US? I kinda like to be kept up to date without searching online a lot. Plus I like to read about stuff away from my comp.

We'll, do you mean besides Animerica? http://www.animerica-mag.com/ Well, uhh, Protoculture Addicts used to be OK, I guess, but these days I just read Animerica. There used to be a couple of others, but they failed. Domestically, anime's too much of a niche market to support more than about two mags.

Besides this site, http://www.animenewsservice.com/ , http://www.animenation.com/ , and http://www.animeondvd.com/ are the only sites you need to visit to keep up to date (and for news, you really only need to visit one; I read them all just for the columns and reviews).

Viz's Animerica, Protoculture's Protoculture Addicts and Wizard's Anime Invasion are the only major general Anime Mags available here.

Anmerica and PA are the established mags, personally I prefer PA, but Animerica is a good magazine too. Wizard Anime is the new comer, I've read their first issue and it was... ok.

There's also "Service Service" which is all about fan service, bi-shoujo and related items.

Viz's Pulp can sometime be informative as well, but its mostly Manga, and subculture.

Animerica Extra, Smile and Manga Blast aren't information orientated at all, just Manga anthologies.

Hehe Service Service could be interesting. Why do you say that anime invasion was just ok? Not as good as animerica and the others?

Well, this is an interesting old school thread; does anyone mind me dragging this one out of mothballs?

The world has changed since 2002! Anime Invasion swapped its moniker and shed its fanzine image to become Anime Insider.

Over here in Japan we're not 100% up to date on the other American anime mags... can anyone here fill in the gaps?

I know new mag Geek Monthly has a section on anime (well, to be honest, I write it!!)... But what else is worth picking up from shops?

Over in the UK, and also distributed in Asia, they have Impact magazine - which is, strictly speaking, an Asian movie journal, but has an increasingly large section on anime.

Or do people here prefer to get their news from ANN and like-minded sites?

Guess I should've told you this sooner, but posting in old topics like this is generally frowned upon. They're old and dead for a reason, but for whatever purpose they just sit in the back pages of the forums without ever being deleted (or so Admin. tells me).

The general gap for discussing old topics is about a month. If you find a really old topic that is older than a month, please feel free to start a brand new one from scratch. Thanks Smile.
