Shoujo Sect ~ Innocent Lovers ~
I don't usually talk about specific hentai series too much, but this particular title may have some interest especially for yuri fans! Shoujo Sect is pretty much one of the rare titles that's a "pure" yuri hentai series which means it will not have the following: - men - dickgirls - crossdressing traps - genderbending plots ....or any other contrived plot point that "always" seem to involve men and/or their parts. Based on a manga by Kenn Kurogane, Shoujo Sect unsurprisingly takes place at an all-girl school (I don't think it's Catholic, not that it matters ). It primarily deals with Momoko and Shinobu as they were childhood friends with the possibility of a budding romantic relationship. In the manga, other specific girl pairs get introduced which always ended up yuri sex scene. Some are one-shot characters and never heard from again while others have connections with the main protagonists. Considering each episode is only 30 minutes long, some of the pairs will more likely get cut down in screentime. The first episode should be out on DVD in Japan already while the second episode will be out around 9/25. I guess it's all right to post this trailer I found on Youtube; it safe for work, by the way. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=FLXVkhQkjWs Oh Media Blasters! If you're out there, keep an eye on this baby to add to your Yuri Fan line up as you'll kill two birds with one stone for peeps who like girl-on-girl romance and peeps who like girl-on-girl sex scenes! |

I find romance and erotica two completely different beasts. To attempt combining the two only hinders the effectiveness of both elements on me. Very much aside: A little futanari never did any harm IMO. |

Yeah, I watched it last night, actually early this morning, and it surprised me too. Most yuri titles, hentai or not, still have a man or something else present as if to push the lesbian theme to the side our out of the way, almost as if the Japanese are completely fearful of lesbianism. It seems so strange though, because yaoi and the such are so damn prevalent and everywhere in the anime and manga world, yet finding a good ole yuri title is next to impossible. Sure you have stuff like Marimite, Strawberry Panic, and a bunch of other stuff, but they're either almost never shown kissing, or engaging in actual love. In contrast, yaoi titles almost always allude or sometimes ever show the act of love making all the time. I'm gonna guess it has to do with Japan's ancient society and how the gender roles were supposed to act.
Back on topic, that title was pretty damn hot and extremely enjoyable, even if I couldn't understand it. Then again, you don't really need to. |

For some reson I have yet to watch this even though I am a HUGE shoujo-ai/yuri fan. It is so hard to find good yuri without men or futa in it. So annoying
And as for genderbending the only shoujo-ai with that can pull it off is Kashimashi considering Hazumu was pretty much a transsexual woman. |

I found this first ep amusing though it drove me a little crazy. It's made up of a patchwork of several smaller storylines within the manga (i.e. they reversed the roles for Yoshikiri Chikae and Kai Utano, making Chikae the disappearing lover instead of Utano, and speeding up the story where Momoko is stuck giving love advice to Chizuru) which I'm not entirely sure I like. However, it's still amusing (the bathroom scene in the manga is just as hilarious in the anime). I know it's hentai but this might worth watching. Normally, hentai isn't my cup of tea so that's saying something.
Some say that the manga is more light-hearted and the OVA is way too serious. I disagree with that assessment. It was actually more of a mix between Handa's angsting over her unrequited love for Momoko, Shigure's and Chizuru's "misunderstanding", the lover's spell story and of course, Handa-sama's random pervy antics. I think I just might break down and purchase both volumes of the manga, despite my normal feelings about hentai in overall. I love Kurogane Kenn's art style and his stories are kind of quirky. There are homoerotic themes in Japanese art since Edo era. Samurais practiced homosexuality without any restriction, like in classic Greece. But in Japan, lesbians are too weird. Japaneses are too mysoginistic, they don't understand why a girl would prefer another girl rather than a guy.
That's a strange comment. Most of "artistic" films have at least one romantic sex scene. Pretigious Asian and European filmmakers don't hesitate in use sex scenes in their "serious" films, even borderline porn movies such as Nagisa Oshima's In the Realm of the Senses or Takashi Ishii's Flower and Snake (I'm talking about the 2004 live action film, not the hentai title) are artistic films. I'm not saying that Shoujo Sect is art or something like that. I'm just saying that sex isn't the boogieman and it isn't a real obstacle for building a decent plot. |

Felt really disjointed compared to the first manga volume.

Agreed, especially, which I noted above, since they've sort of cherry picked from Volume 1 and threw them all together without really introducing us to the characters. Ah well, since it IS porn, I guess plot really isn't supposed to matter, is it? |

I have found on many occasions that a sex scene can be perfectly worked into a film. If it's in keeping with the art and emotions of the rest of the production I'm fine with it. If it's intended for pure arousal (and to evoke more of a "kinaesthetic" response in the viewer than an emotional one) then I'd rather such material was produced on its own without any additional plot. |

Now that I got a better idea of Episode 1, I have to say this wasn't too shabby. The yuri sex scenes were surprisingly pretty mild and toned down compared to the manga. I very much expected this given the length of time for the episode, and considering this hentai OVA is only getting 3 episodes. And with that few of the couples got pretty nerfed.
Though I have to say I found the spoiler[ hawt yuri incest sex scene between the Komai sisters to be utterly amusing especially since Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" was playing in the back ground. How appropriately forbidden yet erotic! ] As for the plot, spoiler[well it pretty much Shinobu having angst over her one-sided love towards Momoko especially since Momoko pretty much forgotten about her during their childhood days. It was those days where Shinobu experienced her first love.] |

I have no idea why I found this amusing but I really do love how you used "nerfed" to describe the short-shrifting the other couples received in the OVA. Your word was giggleworthy
