Wow! Already? I thought it wasn't supposed to be out until the first week of July or so, which is why I haven't really gone to the bookstore to look for it. I'll definitely have to stop by my local B&N or Borders to see if they have it in early as well! I'm excited and can't wait to read it!

I won't be able to talk about it til September as my stores always get everything late. Except for Bleach or Naruto. I think I'll just pre-order this one online from TRSI or another site. That way I won't have to keep bugging the idiot who works my Border's info and can't figure out how to look up a title and order it. Seriously, I've asked him 5 different time for help getting manga volumes ordered. He gives me bs lines about how it's not there blah blah blah. yet when I notice someone there when he walks away they find it for me easy as can be as long as I have the right title. Moron. Sorry, mini rant over now.

That's why you should shop at Barnes & Noble! I ordered mine from them yesterday. So hopefully Monday or Tuesday, I'll get an e-mail from them.

Sorry to be a sucker to y'all, but I've always had mine. But I'm excited to see what you are all going to think about it. Another gripping chapter of the Fruits Basket series!

My local B&N and Borders usually gets manga titles in a little earlier as well, but I haven't stopped in one for awhile so I didn't know! I was just going to wait until sometime in July, but hopefully I can get it soon. I know the local Kinokuniya would definitely have it in already, but that's a lot further for me to go to get manga.

We won't rush into a discussion of Vol. 20. I want to make sure everybody's had a chance to pick it up and read it. So maybe next week, maybe the week after.
This week we're moving on to Haru and Tohru.
Haru seems to have a thing for Tohru, at least he does when he lets loose as Black Haru. Since that's just another aspect of his personality, I figure he has a latent attraction to Tohru but one that he would never act on because he's too nice a guy. Plus, he has Rin. Otherwise, he and Tohru and good friends and schoolmates. Judging by her reaction, Tohru must think Haru is one of the craziest people she knows. Between his love confessions to Yuki and his wanting to pick a fight with Kyo, she can't tell what he might do next.
Again, everyone just give a shout when they've read vol. 20. I look forward to your comments!

Well Tohru at this point in time probably still doesn't understand what Haru did to prove the naturalness of his hair color.
I don't think that Haru and Tohru is all that close. He certainly is at Shigure's house quite often but I really don't see Tohru providing as big a role in his life as she does with Kyo, Yuki, Momiji, Kisa and Rin.
I think Haru internalizing things quite a bit and then Black Haru breaks free and does/says things that Haru can't. And when it's all over, Haru is okay.
I think that Haru is more of an observer of everything that is going on.

Black Haru is, to put it frankly, a horn dog. i forget where, but his black side was described as being an aggressive flirt. as far as actually having an attraction to Tohru, i don't think so. he has always honestly and clearly loved Rin, and only Rin. on the other side of this coin, tohru feels the same attraction, or admiration, that she feels for pretty much all the juniishi (they are all really pretty). but i don't think there's anything that could be interpreted as a thing for each other.

Ok, let's take it from the beginning: they first meet during the competition that they had at school. Thoru thinks that he has fallen ill and wants to help him but she discovers that he actually is a young man (well, the white hair was misleading) and that he is part of the Sohma family. I think that from those very little scenes Tohru and Haru seemed to be good friends because they both seem like the sort of persons who just befriend other persons easily. Then Yuki and Kyo appear but during Kyo and Haru's fight Yuki gets ill and they are obliged to take him home which of course makes the things complicated and so Haru embraces Tohru so he could transform himself.
There is a sort of friendship between Haru and Tohru which is quite different from the ones that Tohru had with the other memers, especially because Haru resembles in a way to Tohru since they both like to protect the people that they love and they are able to sacrifice themselves if that is necessary. Besides Haru, as it has been mentioned before, doesn't have the need to be around Tohru; he is one of the few jyuunishi that don't have problems with their family or with the curse (except for the fact that they transform )
But I liked how the relationship between these characters evolves: from the simple things and pranks like Haru making Tohru to adress in a loving manner to Yuki knowing that the later will trasnform to the more serious ones like when Haru has been dumped by Rin and transforms at school in Black Haru - luckly there was Kyo putting his red cap and protecting Tohru.
And just like Kagura, Haru is also one of the few people that offer Tohru some important information about the Sohma family, or not so important about the curse in general but somehow clarifying information such as Aayame's real job. I still can't remember that scene without laughing.

I thought it interesting how Haru was able to take the opportunity of Yuki getting sick to show which Zodiac he was to Tohru. And who knows, maybe Black Haru and Tohru might have had something going on there But we all know that he's faithful to Rin, so there's no problem there.

Well, he always says that he is in love with Yuki too so I don't think Rin minds much, taking into consideration that she knows Haru since she was a little child and therefore probably knows him better than anyone which is avery good thing.
Sometimes the resemblance between Haru and Tohru is obvious even to the other characters and one in particular namely Rin. This is why she refused at the beginning to be friends with Tohru because she thought that Tohru was a good person like Haru who doesn't deserve to die.
Also something interesting: both Haru and Tohru are capable to sense problems with the other and they try to heal them for instance they both help Kisa and Rin in different ways. In spite of the fact that Haru has this crazy personality of his which is called Black Haru (well, sometimes is really good as when he goes to Akito to ask her why she picked on Rin yet again ), Hatsuharu is a really generous person who cares about his friends just like Tohru.

For Haru to help out certain people in need at times, he has to get angry. He was a bit upset at Kisa for running away and hiding, instead of going to somebody for help. Also the same when Rin's parents abandoned her. He got very upset at them for what they did, and he was having his say on the subject. Tohru obviously has a softer side to her, because she can't let anger get in the way, or else it wouldn't be her.

Well, Haru and Tohru have different ways of approaching the same issue. As you mentioned, Haru is the type of person who speaks out about the problems that he encounters and he tries so much to defend the weaker persons, especially because he knows what it meant to be like that, to be laughed at. Haru's outbursts are full of concern and worry for the other people. But he is also capable of many good things like running through all that rain just to find Kisa. On the other hand Tohru of course that she has a different way of helping people, as her methods are often more subtle. However they both share this feature of being preocupied for the others and trying to help them.
Also they both are very protective when it comes to Yuki. While Haru, upon hearing that Ayame is living at the guys' place, asks Hatori to come and pick up the old brother, Tohru will try to establish a contact between the two brothers.
