We should have a sticky so that if you need some manga idea's we can have them, since were always getting blocked.

Well, if the users who frequent this board think it's a good idea, then I can make a sticky like that, but I'm not about to up and create it out of the blue. I'm not on this board very much, so I don't know how you all feel about recommendations threads, or if a centralized sticky would work. Any other inputs or opinions?

I don't think its really necessary for this forum at this point. The forum doesn't get that much traffic and rec threads don't pop up that much. It seems like it would just mean more work for the mods and no real benefit.

I think that's a great idea, especially for those who have just started reading manga (like me). I usually don't know what to read, so I always ask others for recommendations, but I only know a few people to ask.
It's just one thread, right? We should have a system for asking/giving recommendations though. Something like this:
For those asking for recommendations
My fave manga titles - Yotsuba&!, 20th Century Boys
Specific genre I'm looking for - Slice of life or mystery
Other comments - (availability, length of series, etc)
-- This way, everyone has an idea of what someone is specifically looking for.
For those giving recommendations
To [insert username of member you wish to give recommendations to] (or maybe you can quote the request)
Recommendation/s:
Azumanga Daioh
Genre: Slice of life, school, comedy
Number of volumes (or chapters): 4 volumes
Brief Synopsis:
Monster
Genre: Mystery, Psychological
Number of volumes/chapters: 18 volumes, 162 chapters
Brief Synopsis
---
Basically something like that. It'll be more organized that way.

At this point I would not be for it for reasons stated above. There just isn't engouh people here in the manga forum compared to the anime forum to really warrant going to the extent of trying to make recommendation threads for all the genres of manga. And there is a heck of a lot more manga series out there than there is anime.

Plus what basis would we set for recommendations? There has to be some sort of requirement or else we'd just get a plethora of one liners and lost posts. Maybe use a few of the key manga genres (comedu, drama etc) and use general threads like in the anime section based on those genres. I think that would be easier.

The idea is not bad but as it has been stated before me it would be a difficult job to take care of it. The need of a recommendation thread does exist, though it might not seem like it. There have been threads where people were asking for recommandations for romance/ vampire/ gore manga etc etc. If I remember correctly there was even a recent thread asking for a recommendation after reading some titles but Selenta had to lock it because the recommendation thread wasn't allowed.
Although this forum doesn't have as much traffic as the anime forum, I think a sticky like this is necessary even if just to encourage the people that read manga and want to read more but they don't know which direction to take. The only thread that offers information about manga in general (indifferent to genre) is the thread "what are you reading right now? why?" But this isn't very helpful to people who are looking for a specific genre and anyway there are informations which would take a lot to search for.
However the starting point of such a thread may be difficult but I think that the ideas that jetz had might be used or may create the basis for such a thread.
