In case anyone is curious, these are the specs for the new server:
2 x Pentium 4 Xeon 2.8 Ghz
2 Gigabytes Ecc DDR 266 Ram
2 x 80 gig ide 7200rpm 8 meg cache WD Hard drives
2 x 1 gigabit nics (we'll only be using one for now, and it won't be doing anything near gigabit)
Anyways, the two important things are the faster dual CPUs and the extra memory.
Our old server is a P3 1.4 with 512 megs ram.
What should we call the new server?

I've always been fond of naming my computers after female anime characters myself, maybe you could get together a list of great aniem females and poll the readers

That server should be good. Will the older one remain around for a while? It might be possible to run some aspects of the site off it. Say forums or Encyclopedia on the old one, main page and news on the new one. Or some such.
As for names, I vote for obscure characters from Macross. Vanessa Laird, the bridge bunny, or Sally S. Ford another bridge bunny.

I'll be unoriginal. Name it Casper or Balthasar or....damn what's the third one.
What's the first server called? Maybe you could name it after another natural occurance, Tsunami. Or, the other direction and name it Othello.
........or Empyrean.....or Elysium........or Canaan.........

Naming any computer is not an easy task. If you name a computer wrong, it could very well backfire on you.
In 1999, I named my Celeron "Nuriko", since I liked FY at the time. Little did I know at the time that (a) it was a cross-dressing machine, which made it oddly tempermental at times and (b) it died after ~2 years, or about 1 year before I was going to buy a new one. Compare 2/3rds with the episode # when Nuriko dies...
Needless to say, if you name your computer the wrong thing, it could be very, very disasterous. :)
What we need is something stable and powerful, but able to handle multiple things at once.
Something like... Tentacool. Hey, it's even weak to lightning! :)

Well, if we want something that can handle all-comers, Saitou is a good choice. Although in reality he was never a bishy,
he was a badass and that good. An additional note that can spoil some Kenshin, but is good omens for a server He lived a long, long time, dying in bed at the age of 72 of a gastric ulcer.

Interestingly enough, my computer is already named after a female anime character.
I like the idea of turning the name choosing into a poll, or maybe a contest.
I think that if it dosen't have to be from anime, but still have a japanese theme you could call the server Akebono.
If you want to name it after a character how about Fujiko

How about Susan-oh, the Japanese mythological God that slayed the 8 headed dragon Yamada-no-orochi (I think I spelled that right)?

Hmm, server naming. Personaly I think the best way to give it a name is for people to recomend the names and then vote on what people like the best. However, me personaly, I would go with a name from an anime:
- Navi: Serial Expariments Lain
- Tomato: Ed's computer in Cowboy Bebop
- Beast: X TV
- Omoikane: The Nadesico's main computer in Martain Sucessor Nadesico
I know there are more than that out there, personaly Navi and Tomato or at the top of my list

I named my computer Navi *is completely unoriginal*
My suggestions are:
"BEAST" From X/1999 This would be too funny.
"Chobitsu" ... ok, enough with the CLAMP suggestions...
I like the idea of the three Eva computers mentioned earlier.
Then there's always Jadress.
Aura *from .hack*
Night-san, named after the hot yummy male robot from Yuu Watase's Zettai Kareshi. He's from the NIGHTLY series model 01 ~_^. *ducks from things thrown at her*
I don't see why we need to name it after a female.
