I'd like to make a suggestion, that if explored, I would like to tackle personally (or at least help). My suggestion involes providing more comprehensive, in-depth knowledge on many of the Japanese music artists within the encyclopedia.
Since, I've joined ANN (well only more recently), I've been adding anything I could for numerous artists such as FLOW, abingdon boys school, L'Arc~en~Ciel, and Utada Hikaru in regards to non-anime staff credits (song contributions outside of anime), and to further the depth of information on those artist. I think it'd be a great idea to include the discography of artists, and perhaps some general information similar to that of a Plot Summary for an anime.
For example:
(Utada Hikaru)
Discography:
Precious (1998)
First Love (1999)
Distance (2001)
Deep River (2002)
Utada Hikaru Single Collection Vol. 1 (2004)
Exodus (2004)
ULTRA BLUE (2006)
HEART STATION (2008)
Of course, you could also add additional points, like the fact Precious, and Exodus are English spoken album,s or that Precious was done under the name Cubic-U. I do understand though, that some artists, like an Ayumi Hamasaki, or L'Arc~en~Ciel, would have a much larger discography but I think it could very well help in terms of providing general information on the artist for new fans of Japanese music, and the artist.
And, in regards to the general information. It doesn't have to be much, a simple short paragraph, establishing information on how a band was formed, or artist began, and such, as well as their general style, and any significant musical changes (Sakura being arrested and be replaced by yukihiro as the new drummer for L'Arc~en~Ciel). I hope that these are wqrthwhile suggestions, and like I said, I could easily help since I'm considerably knowledgeable (as well as many others on this site) of the world Japanese music.
Thanks for your time.

While such information will do no harm, ANN is a website focused on Japanese animation, not Japanese music. There were similar suggestions like Japanese culture, Japanese language, Japanese politics, and the much talked-about Japanese video games (non-anime related ones), etc., but unless ANN grows 10 or 20 times bigger than its current state I don't think we could or should dilute our content or manpower with information not directly related to Japanese animation.

Is that why there's a column on japanese music here o,o? I think some people might like to be able to click on a link for an artist who did an op they liked and be able to find out a bit more than just what other ops they've done. If that kind of logic is the reasoning behind not doing something like this, then why bother listing the non anime roles that seiyuus have held?
That being said, there's plenty of jmusic sites out there so I can agree it's not a necessity.

I thought the idea could fit in well considering we have articles specifically related to Japanese music (Sound Decision, and now Hai Fidelity). While, it isn't a necessity, I just thought it could benefit members, after all we also have a Music forum relating to Japanese music as well. Could help relieve the amount of questions that come in from members. Anyways, it's up to you guys at the top. I just think it'd be a great help, that isn't intrusive to the nature of the site's current content.
If you were to choose the most essential part of my suggestion to add. The general description of the band, or artist would probably the better choice since it dpesn't simply list additional albums but furthers the information of the artists in the encyclopedia.

It's definitely a good point that ANN has already entered the J-Music arena with music columns and a music forum. It would be easy to add a discography. However please keep in mind that the Encyclopedia is really designed to work as a "data sheet" where each fact leaves little room for debate; it's either true or not. But a general description is an aggregate of many informations, more akin to a writing an article, where it's not so much a matter of true or not, but a matter of bad/good/better description. If you think one important element was left out of the description, how do you add it? A wiki would be more suited for that kind of "data".

I see your point, it is much subjective in that matter but in the matter of the discographies. That's completely factual. I'd still like to help in that regard, if you guys are willing to follow through on that. You may not even have to create a 'Discography' part to it. Some artists have a chronology, we could use that as well (unless you wish to keep that for more personal related items).
