Well, this show ended up being the most sexually drenched rock series of this season which is a welcome surprise! Cool

I do like how much of a sexual innuendo the show is making every time Otoha wants to collab with Lilisa. And now they want to form a band! I have no idea if it will be part of the lexicon. Laughing

Do we know how many episodes this is going to be? 3 episodes in and we still haven't even met 2 of the girls yet makes me a little nervous if it's going to be 12 episodes.

Then again K-On covered 2 years of high school and a late main character introduction in 12 episodes, so what do I know?

I've been loving the series, just watching Lilisa and her impossible hair is more entertaining than most shows of this type but I don't see it as ultra-sexualization... the music is too unrhythmic for that which would seem why every jam session ends in a hatefest.

I do think of the show as Maria Watches Over Us... plus something... but I would say Otoha and Lilisa are closer to lovers in their everyday personalities than as drummer and guitarist.

I'm curious to see how this band gets formed, especially if every move and performance has to be done in secret.

.... why am I thinking of School Rumble? Eri?

They have pretty liberally modified and moved stuff around from the manga so far, to the show's benefit, so I'm hopeful they have a good plan in mind to come up with a solid 12 episode story out of the material

It's probably going to be 12 episodes. I can see them introducing the other two by episode 5 or 6.

First of all saying people that like Linkin Park or The Red Hot Chili Peppers a lot don't have a good taste in music is just rude. Music is subjective for people. It doesn't make them better or worse than whatever the author state is "Taste".

Second of all the sexual visuals are just fan service and I hope this show has no romance bs. It's more interesting if they don't fall in love and just are friends with a lot of anger issues they work out through music. Yuri is always in these kind of stories and frankly it gets old and boring. Making it have actual romance would be the easy way out.

In the original Japanese, the provocative double entendres are even more noticeable. The word that Otoha uses that the subs translate as "collaborate" is 交わる (majiwaru), which, depending the context can mean: associate with, interact with (people); intersect, join (lines); or have sex.

In the second episode, the first time Otoha says it in the classroom, the subs translate it as "intimate experience". The next two times it is translated as "collaborate" but it is the same word.
04:05 交わった (majiwatta) - had an intimate experience
05:12 交わっていただき (majiwatte itadaki) - collaborated with me
05:41 交わりましょうか (majiwarimashouka) - lets collaborate

Soon after that she asks Ririsa:
06:31 つぎはいつやりましょう (tsugi wa itsu yarimashou) - when's our next session

The word Otoha uses is やる which has a lot of meanings, including "to do", "to give", but also "to have sex".

Yuri is almost never actually in these kinds of stories, just ship-bait.

Wow, this show is crazy. Love it. I chose it as one of the few shows I'd follow this season, and it's paying off.

Agreed. In fact, it was Linkin Park (and Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Moonspell and Scorpions) that generated my interest in Rock and Metal in general. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are good, but I never listened too much to them. The only album I know from them is Mother's Milk. Led Zeppelin are cool, though.

Disagreed. Pandering and baiting is what is prevalent in most shows that involve more than two girls. Being more to the point would actually distinguish the show, be it from a romantic, or from a purelly sexual angle. Perhaps the least explored path is that of sexual tension without romance. Of course, friends with musical anger management is also an interesting concept.

I have no complaints about Led Zeppelin, but The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Linkin Park aren't exactly at the top of my rock-and-roll tierlist. Then again, those were a huge part of my own high school experience, so I can't say their inclusion is inaccurate. It can take a while to develop a taste for good music.

I must say that I being elitist about rock music when talking about series which discuss (among other things) how being elitist about music in general is stupid concept would be deeply ironic if it wasn't done for real.

There is exceedingly small amount of series with real yuri. Most of it is yuribaiting. If the series went beyond shiptease into real love or sex relationship it would actually be in small minority.

Nobody is obligated to find the session scenes hot, or root for these girls to become a couple. But I think it's funny that someone would be watching this show, believing that the way the girls interact and play music in the session scenes is actually just an expression of wholesome Christian friendship, and it's only the perverted creators who artificially turn their earnest musical collaboration into a sexualized spectacle... While shuddering at the thought that the girls could start making out in a later episode.

Like, it's so perfect. Claiming that the sexual tension between the girls should not be taken seriously because it's clearly "just fanservice", but then immediately revealing how worried you are that this pair of girls might become an official couple later. Why all this concern about the show somehow (against all odds!) turning into a lesbian romance if all that can be seen in these first three episodes is the blossoming, innocent friendship of two straight girls?

(It's also pretty out there that someone would think there is an abundance of girls-in-a-band anime series that fully commit to the lesbianism they hint at.)

Gonna mini rant here and say it's kind of annoying how many anime fans just evacuated the concept of subtext from their vocabulary and just replaced it with [something]-bait. The "yuri" in this show is not bait, it's subtext, and it's literally screaming it at all time.

This is isn't two girls spending half their screentime lovingly looking at each others in the eyes only to have nothing happen by the time it wraps up. This show makes it clear, both visually and textually, that their forbidden love of rock is on the same level as the forbidden love between two "proper maidens".

Like it's impossible to read them dripping with sweat, fingers entangled, proposing each others to form a band as anything else than metaphor for going steading in their very angry BDSM switch relationship.

I mean, didn't narrator Lilisa refer to Otoha as her future life-long partner (or something to that effect) in the first episode?

If you actually read the posts you are ranting about you would see they weren't talking about this series, but about what a lot of different series love to do at this point.

Also in no way are things like for example Yoru no Kurage wa Oyogenai dropping entire "love" part between Kano and Mahiru after kiss like it didn't happen "subtext". It was clearly suits being afraid of letting authors follow on topics they wanted to talk about, same as with Kiui gender nonconformity.

And that's not even the most egregious example. The term "yuribaiting" is overused and applied incorrectly (like people calling Witch from Mercury for yuribaiting...), but it exists for a reason.
