I'm so glad that Mizukami got the adaption they wanted. Loved this series from start to finish, even with some of the janky animation at times. It's got so much heart and soul.

I wholeheartedly agree, this was such a wonderful character driven show with some nice battle scenes animated decently. It won't win any glowing awards for artistry, but the heart these characters have and the fantastical story more then makes up for the middling at times animation. A fun Shonen series well worth a watch.

Completely agree it’s a shame it flew under the radar for a lot of people this was one of those anime's I looked forward to watching every week.

I slogged through this whole show because I kept reading about how good it was going to get, and I'm still waiting. While Jinka not being around surely made this part better than the first, I still didn't find a single compelling character, thematic, or plot point. The waste of Tsukiko's character in particular was nothing short of criminal, and pretty much everything is resolved through power-of-friendship shounen nonsense. I really don't get what was supposed to be so "different" about this.

I'm really happy for Mizukami that he was able to get a good adaption of his work and one that really seemed to care about adapting it right. Maybe some of the fights could have been animated better but it's the story and characters that really carried the series from beginning to end.
I just really engaged with the cast and how this show really tacked tough questions about power, love, and what it means to fight and how there are no easy answers as our protagonists constantly question themselves, their actions, and the consequences. They don't always win and they don't always settle things cleanly, but they grow and become more mature people.
Also so many Best Girls! Tama, Tsukiko, even a Yuki-Onna! And Best Boys in Senya, Shinsuke, Douren, Jinun!
