The sad thing here is that it looks like the anime will probably be leagues better than the movie ever was.

I was going to say that this probably would have been better off made into an anime first. The proper effort to translate these types of stories onto film is just not being dealt anymore. For the most part anyway. It's too bad really.
But most likely this will turn out to be a half decent anime. It's just easier to convey these types of stories through that medium.
Edit: @ update:
It looks like they are using a very clean style. Looks neat.

My first impression of Ultraviolet (which I've never seen) was that it looked like a live action anime with it's stylish characters and over the top action. Looks like others felt the same way.

The movie was better than I expected, after all the hate it got.
But these designs are really ugly.

Hopefully we get to see an anime version of Gun Kata and all the fight scenes will be top notch.
Violet didn't start on the side of the government in the movie IIRC. Is that really Violet?

Wimmer's a one-hack wonder, and I'm wondering why Dezaki and Sugino have to waste time with a spin-off to a shitty film.

It's a badass girl with guns, swords and anything that can equip a small army. It's another AEon Flux.

Just think: perhaps this will lead to the release of the super duper uncut version of Ultraviolet, the original cut that was apparently like 40 minutes longer than even the so-called "director's cut" that was released! And then after that the super-secret "we didn't turn the brightness level up to the max thus washing out all the detail" version.
God. Ultraviolet has got to be one of the most disappointing movies ever. It made like, no money here. I don't know anyone who likes it. How the hell did the powers that be decide that "yes, we'll make an anime out of this"?
If it turns out that Dezaki and Sugino are not involved with the new Golgo 13 or Space Adventure Cobra TV series when they are involved with this, then it's time to start punching rabbits in the face. Seriously.
Perhaps Dezaki could make a good anime out of it, provided he just didn't lose his mind since it took EFFORT to make Ultraviolet bad. But let's face reality here, folks: anime's track record for making good stuff where the plot is "girl with sword kills vampires"? Not exactly promising.
EDIT: I just discovered that Dezaki and Sugino are in fact, not doing the new Golgo 13 TV series at all. But they are doing this. It's bunny clobberin' time.

Never saw the movie because I heard it was bad, but I'm going to watch this if it kills me. Paku Romi as a vampire-slaying action chick? Sign me the hell up

AWO: At least that T.A.T.U. anime appears to be dead in the water.
But yeah, a Predator or AVP anime should be a real priority. And maybe a Spider Man anime, since there's already a manga, and Sony won't get part 4 off the ground any time soon...

I never saw the movie either. Interesting, as I never thought it would get an anime.
Still ....

I'm not too amped for this. Ultraviolet is easily the worst film I've ever seen. In all honesty no exaggeration. There are ZERO redeeming qualities. No, its stylish. I'll give it that. But the acting is far worse than anything you can imagine, the story is ridiculous and the action (the only thing I figured would be decent) was horrible.
I'll be avoiding this one with a 10ft pole.

Ugh. Really?
The trouble is that most of the stuff in the movie was already done better in various anime. Plus the opening credits even used the outdated term "Japanimation".
At one point a friend was joking that one character had a sword like Shishiro from Kenshin. He joked that it should catch on fire. Well, like ten minutes later.. fwooosh.
The movie was terrible. I like to put it this way. We saw the movie for free, in addition to getting free passes when a free screening didn't work out. We walked out of the still feeling ripped off.
It's a shame. The director's previous film, Equilibrium, wasn't bad. This one was just a flashy and cliche mess. There are tons of other movies that deserve an anime better than this tripe. Hell, even Milla Jovovich films. Fifth Element anyone? At least that one had Moebius doing the design work.
What a waste of animation.

Actually, it tried so hard to be stylish that it failed at that too. The entire movie is a series of lame one liners and music video money shots, where everyone is trying so hard to look cool that they fail miserably. It only hurts the situation even more that they didn't have enough money to make decent special effects.
I can see it being a good anime if they simply took the concept of 'Superhuman with a sword and gun fights a government who's trying to wipe out her kind' and made it more gritty and desperate where her opposition isn't just fodder for her sword and gun, but if they try to take any more from the movie it's going to drag it into the gutter.

It actually used the term 'Japanamaction' (the first and last time I've heard that terminology used), I guess in a lame attempt to create their own terminology for their movie.
